Formerly Minister for Aviation, Maritime & Security (DfT), Chair of Defence Select Committee, Solicitor-General for England & Wales.
Just an extraordinary technological achievement, as much as it is to watch. Incredible innovation and rapid progress in - relatively speaking - a short period of time, with opportunities and challenges for industry, Governments and defence alike. https://lnkd.in/ejDuKxBM

The amount of satellites in orbit is rapidly increasing, and both civil society and militaries are dependent on them. But how can we protect them and what do they mean for defence? Check out the latest episode of Let's talk about tech: https://lnkd.in/gNJM5sE4

When we talk about #Space #Logistics, it's important to know that Industry, such as Intelsat and Northrop Grumman, have already started and everyone can learn from these lessons and accelerate capability. Don't waste money and time on long studies and further analysis of the problem. #JustDoIt
In case you missed it -- we will be extending the life of additional satellites with the Misson Extension Vehicle (MEV) program. In 2020, Intelsat became the first satellite operator to commit to deploying two of Northrop Grumman’s MEVs to extend the life of an otherwise healthy satellite. Both MEVs have been successful at their mission and have allowed IS-10-02 and Intelsat 901 (IS-901) to provide five years of service beyond the expected lifespan of the satellite. Let’s take a closer look at MEV-1. Learn more about our recent news here >>> https://intl.st/3wDW8ye

The weather this Spring may have been dull, but work definitely hasn't been. The last few months have been a whirlwind of activity building up to the launch of Starion and Nexova, both of which contribute to the resilience of our societies' critical infrastructures through their #space, #cyber and system #engineering expertise and skills. I've had the privilege of working with an amazing marketing and communications team on this project, as well as very knowledgeable (and very patient) subject experts and C-suite executives, and a great web agency. It's been by turns challenging and rewarding, but in the end there's nothing quite like seeing a big project finally come to life when a website goes live - or in this case two websites. Now it's on to the next stage, with more ideas to generate and investigate and more copy to research and write, all of which I'm excited to get started on! (Though with a little more time for friends and family in the mix, I promise.) Follow Starion and/or Nexova to see more. #NewBeginnings #CriticalInfrastructures #copywriting #marketing #innovation #ideas #websites
🚀 Welcome to Starion, the company that pushes the boundaries of engineering innovation! We're excited to embark on a new venture dedicated to expanding our presence in the fast-moving space industry, as well as defence and critical infrastructures. Here's to reaching for the stars together! 🌠 https://hubs.la/Q02tWYKB0 #EngineeringExcellence #SpaceTalent #SpaceTechnologies #CriticalInfrastructure #Defence

Boeing has a complexity problem. The Challenge: Many companies have embraced outsourcing to streamline costs. This approach works well for simpler systems, but for complex machines (like airplanes) it introduces a hidden danger zone: the intricate dance of interconnected parts. The Problem with Complexity: Boeing's experience highlights a critical challenge: predicting how millions of parts will interact to ensure perfect harmony in flight. Traditional methods struggle with this complexity, leaving room for unforeseen failures that emerge at the integration stage. These failures, often the result of unforeseen interactions, can be catastrophic. The Intractable Myth: This might seem like an intractable problem of supplier management, but it's a deeper issue: complexity management. Shorter testing cycles fueled by cost-cutting measures simply won't suffice. We need a way to predict these interactions with far greater accuracy. Beyond 80%: Current, even advanced, systems struggle to predict interactions beyond 80% accuracy. This leaves a significant margin for error in complex systems. Here's where Neurosymbolic AI enters the picture. This AI approach allows organizations like NASA and Uber to achieve a much higher level of predictive accuracy. Predicting the Unpredictable By analyzing vast amounts of data and understanding the relationships between parts, **only Neurosymbolic AI** can identify potential failure points at the design stage, long before assembly. This allows for proactive solutions and dramatically reduces the need for lengthy and expensive testing cycles. The Boeing Opportunity: Boeing's case study showcases a key benefit of Conexus: mitigating complexity for cost savings. By predicting and preventing failures, companies can achieve significant cost reductions in the long run. The Takeaway: Complexity doesn't have to be an enemy of cost-efficiency. If an organization adopts Neurosymbolic AI, companies like Boeing can embrace the benefits of outsourcing while ensuring the safety and reliability of their complex systems. It's time to move beyond the 80% barrier and enter the era of reliable AI. If your organization is ready to conquer complexity, the next step is widely adopting Neurosymbolic AI. hat tip for surfacing the vulnerability Theodore Colbert III The importance of "multi-domain integration" is manifest. The error-free solutions are not yet widely recognized, let alone adopted.
All-domain awareness and interoperability enable real-time communication and data sharing between systems, which is crucial in a challenging and ever evolving security environment. In a battlespace with multiple participants, platforms must seamlessly collaborate. This was the focus of a recent interview with SpaceNews, where my colleagues Kay Sears and Dan Gillian discussed the importance of multi-domain integration. From seabed to space, Boeing Defense, Space & Security, is enabling the warfighter to control the battlespace. The key to successful multi-domain integration lies in collaboration, open systems, cybersecurity, and procurement reform. Space-based assets, such as satellites, and platforms, like E-7 and KC-46, can all work together to create a more holistic and resilient operational picture. Boeing is committed to driving these cross-domain solutions and stands ready to contribute to the advancement of multi-domain integration. When we’re all working with the same digital tools, help can come from many directions.

As long as they move in their orbit very high above the surface of the Earth, and as long as there are not yet flying spacecraft that can fight at that level of their orbit, and as long as there are no jamming techniques capable of sufficient electromagnetic power to access to their cosmic coordinates, they are completely protected.
