As we close out Women’s History Month, this is your reminder that progress on the wage gap between men and women has actually slowed in recent years in the U.S. In fact, most progress on women’s wages happened between 30 and 40 years ago. Between 1982 and 2002 the gap between men and women’s wages increased, on average, from 65 to 80 cents on the dollar. But since 2002, women’s wages on average have only moved two cents – to 82 cents on the dollar! In some cases, women in North Carolina have fared a little better, but there is work to be done. 'State of Working Women 2023,' explores the wage gap, as well as unpaid caregiving, the caregiving economy, discrimination in the workforce, and more. Stay informed: https://lnkd.in/ebZ3_U_N

It's Moms' Equal Pay Day and the numbers are concerning! Single moms are disproportionately affected by the gender pay gap, earning only 56 cents for every $1 paid to dads. This disparity contributes to a higher poverty rate for single-mother households. One potential solution? Paid leave! Paid leave policies can help mothers stay in the workforce and increase their earnings potential. Another important solution is a living wage, starting with a minimum wage of $15/hour nationwide, along with paid family and medical leave to further support mothers in the workforce. Check out this article from The 19th for more info and vote in 2024 for representatives that support family friendly policies. https://lnkd.in/e8ccNJy7 #MomsEqualPay #SingleMomStruggles #StandUpSpeakOut

This week, FPWA observed #EqualPayDay, serving as a poignant reminder of the persistent gender wage gap and the pressing need for pay equity, particularly within the home care sector. In a recent blog penned by Emily Pisano, Fiscal Policy Analyst at FPWA, the significant wage disparities faced by women of color are underscored, with statistics revealing that Black women earn only 70% of what White men do, and Hispanic women even less at 65%. These inequities are especially pronounced in the home care sector, where a striking 82% of workers are women, predominantly women of color. On top of the existing wage challenges in the home care sector, proposed budget cuts by Governor Hochul continue to pose a serious threat, exacerbating this already dire situation and putting the well-being of home care workers at risk. Check out the blog: bit.ly/49PIkyT on our website to find out how FPWA will fight against wage deprivation and income inadequacy that can uplift all women, particularly women of color. This budget season let us all strive for a fair and equitable future that prioritizes #carenotcuts.

Founder and CEO of Bus Stop Mamas, Motherhood Career Pathway™, 9to3Movement™, Sustainable Hiring Practices™, Mama Index™
Women are penalized for having children. It's preposterous, right? It's change time, baby! Bus Stop Mamas is shining the light on Her value. For the past 30 years, women's pay has leveled off at about 70 to 80 cents on the dollar, even though education gaps between men and women have reversed. Closing the pay gap requires "multipronged approaches" that shift the focus from workers to employers, institutions and government policy, said Jasmine Tucker vice president for research at the National Women's Law Center. Regardless of the cause, the fact that roughly half of working Americans have less money to spend due to their gender has implications for the U.S. economy, said Sarah Jane Glynn chief economist at the U.S. Department of Labor. Bus Stop Mamas is a proven model that fixes what is broken for her, for employers, and for the world, while offsetting the need for childcare. Unbelievable, right? Nope. Everyone literally wins. Jobs built for mom life. DM me today for more information or check out our website and be the change! www.busstopmamas.com Thanks to the Star Tribune for this story! Some states are closer to narrowing the pay gap than others. However, in all 50 states, and the District of Columbia, men have higher median annual earnings compared to women. Vermont has the most narrow wage gap, with women earning $3,872 less than men. Wyoming has the largest pay gap, with women earning $18,877 less than men. Ohio ranks #26 compared to other states. Other select states are provided below. Read more about the work the Women's Fund is doing to close the gap. https://lnkd.in/eKJTZJ8u

According to the National Women's Law Center, among full-time, year-round workers in the United States, women are typically paid only 84 cents for every dollar paid to men. This gap in earnings translates into $9,990 less per year in median earnings. Based on this wage gap, women, regardless of their race or ethnicity, would lose $399,600 over the course of a 40-year career. For Native women compared to white, non-Hispanic men, the career losses mount to $1,149,880; for Latinas, the losses are $1,218,000; for Black women, the losses are $884,800; and for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Other Pacific Islander women (AANHPI) the losses are $187,616.2 If the wage gap is not addressed, women starting their careers today stand to lose between hundreds of thousands of dollars and more than $1 million over the course of their careers, undercutting their ability to provide for themselves and their families, build wealth, gain education, and secure her retirement. #EqualPayDay #EqualPay2024 #EndTheWageGap

On Moms’ Equal Pay Day, we shed light on the persistent wage gap experienced by mothers in the workplace. The statistics speak volumes: the wage gap is 71 cents for moms working full-time, year-round as compared to fathers working full-time, year-round. But that wage gap widens to 63 cents on the dollar when looking at all working moms as compared to all working fathers. Cultural stereotypes and workplaces designed around workers without caregiver responsibilities or who have others performing that work, deeply impact women who are both workers and caregivers. Moms are the backbone of our economy, dedicating their time and effort to both their families and their careers. Yet, pay discrimination, caregiver discrimination, and lack of paid leave in many of the jobs predominantly held by women continue to limit their pay and opportunities, impacting their economic stability and future economic security. Support working mothers by urging your lawmakers to support: - Healthy Families Act, which would set a national standard for paid sick and safe days to allow workers in businesses with 15 or more employees to earn up to seven job-protected paid sick and safe days each year. Take action at https://p2a.co/x89tCis - FAMILY Act, which would provide workers with up to 12 weeks of partial income when they take time off work for their own serious health condition; the serious health condition of a family member; the birth or adoption of a child; to address the effects of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking; and for certain reasons related to military deployment. The wage gap varies considerably depending on where you live. Across Ohio's 88 counties, full-time, year round working women earn between $0.60 (Monroe County) and $0.91 (Vinton County) for every dollar a man earns. Across the U.S., rural counties tend to experience wider pay gaps compared to urban counties. Join us as we work to fight for women's equal pay. https://lnkd.in/eKJTZJ8u
