I learned that by sharing my own experience, strength and hope -- it not only reinforces my personal recovery but also can help shine a light for others In 12-step circles, the phrase "experience, strength, and hope" is used when sharing either from the podium in meetings or one to one > Experience refers to the personal stories of what our lives were like during active addiction, including the challenges and hardships faced. Why this was important to me, especially in the early days, is because I thought I was unrepairably broken because regardless of the consequences I faced, I could not stop drinking/using drugs. Hearing others, when faced with dire consequences, also could not stop drinking on their own, helped me not feel so alone. > Strength is about the coping skills, insights, and tools we have access to through others sharing in our recovery programs. There's undeniable power of the collective resilience in my communities. Story telling provides a framework for living without a drink/drug that is shared member to member. I learned early on to borrow someone else's "concept of strength" until I was able to find my own. > Hope is shared as a vision for the future, inspired by what we've already experienced. It provides motivation and a sense of possibility for recovery and a healthier, fulfilling life beyond my own active alcoholism/drug addiction. we're honored that people trust us with their personal stories of recovery so that we can amplify this "sense of possibility" in our print magazine a physical product that is distributed to all Maine jails, prisons, recovery community centers, peer support centers, many treatment centers and psychiatric units for FREE there are a MILLION recovery stories, we believe more people to know forever grateful. #amplifyhope #journeymagazine #recoveryjourney
