Mental health struggles are unfortunately common in teens, making up 16% of disease and injuries in people aged 10 to 19. Mental health issues start from around 14 years of age and often go undiagnosed and untreated. Suicide and depression are some of the leading causes of death among teens, and can even lead to other struggles such as substance abuse in later years. World Teen Mental Wellness Day begins and carries on very important conversations about mental health. People often fail to understand what teenagers go through, and the stigma associated with mental illness can make teens reluctant to ask for help. This day encourages open conversation and awareness to help teens around the world. If your teen is struggling with mental health, give us a call. Our team of trusted providers will do everything in their power to find a solution, and get them on the right track to a positive, well mind. (901)-501-7700

In a room of 25 kids, about 5 would have a mental health disorder. Yet, only one of these five children typically receives the treatment they need. Why? The barriers to mental health care extend beyond logistical issues like cost and provider availability. A significant, often overlooked barrier is societal stigma. This stigma fuels misconceptions, perpetuates myths, and discourages families from seeking necessary services. Our latest blog post delves into these myths and offers practical solutions to promote mental health acceptance. By understanding and addressing stigma, we can help more children receive the care they need and deserve. Throughout December, we’re taking a look back at some of our most-viewed Let’s all Talk Mental Health sessions, covering a range of subjects with a host of leading experts. In this talk, our in-house clinical psychologist, Dr Sarah-Jane Knight, talked about social anxiety in teens - one of the most common mental health disorders among this age group and something that may seem more prevalent during the festive period. Social anxiety can have a significant impact on teens’ everyday lives, self-confidence, self-esteem, relationships and school/college life, but there are signs to look out for and ways to support young people experiencing it. Dr Sarah-Jane’s tips include seeking help when avoidance arises and engaging in a gradual process to address anxiety-inducing situations, with a reminder that it's a gradual, time-consuming journey, not a quick fix.
