I know it’s really difficult for Social Care and Political Leaders to get their heads around but safe loving families and “service users” really do know best. A choice based system will radically transform outcomes AND radically improve value for money and productivity. Will our political leaders and social care leaders have the vision, the wisdom and the compassion to finally talk to the choice committed voices currently at the margins in terms of social policy and practice? #AmorVincitOmnia And yes that is one of the 2 Latin phrases I know.

--The Advice Service, holistic and pragmatic support and guidance empowering you to have a positive Impact
The real face of the Conservative Party I am appalled but not shocked on the recent announcement of Suella Braverman that she wants the tents of the homeless banned. This shows the conservative party in its true light, for if this cold heartless woman can instigate the removal of tents to those who have nowhere to shelter from the elements, then this vulgar display of gross inhumanity shows utter contempt for human rights. These fundamental rights that were put in place to stop the actions of those who totally disregard fairness, respect, equality, dignity, and autonomy. Section 21, another manifesto pledge that has not been upheld has forced those who do not have the capabilities to own their own home, must pay exorbitant rents to rouge landlords in housing conditions more prevalent to another decade, that causal effect of which is poor mental and physical mental health and well-being is abhorrent! Councils up and down the country have wasted funds, in Southampton where I reside, care homes have closed, hence residents are moved without care or thought. Those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease will be affected greatly as it is essential to maintain their peace and equilibrium, the affect to their families who do not know where there loved ones will end up, may not be able to visit and all the other complexities that moving such fragile residence, (who have paid into this broken system for the majority of their lives) are in despair. We the citizens have power, although those in the hallowed halls of Westminster and the House of Lords think that will are all idiots. It is time to muster ourselves, to stand up and take our country back, for too long we have remained silent! Or are we prepared to let this government act in such an inhumane manner, riding rough shod over our rights, wasting our public funds without fear and no redress, in this broken political system which has over promised and under delivered will all end up in the gutter. Our children are hungry, our elderly are not respected, our teachers, doctors and nurses are undervalued and underpaid. Silence is no longer an option, do not be fooled into submission, for if we do not act now, history will show that would of, could of, was all that we offered. We are better than that, we are stronger together and we cannot let these political waisters ruin our lives, our freedoms, or our country. #dignity #equality #fairness #respect #speakout #notinmyname #togetherwearestrong #timefortruth #peoplepower #justice #fightforyourrights #

Could not be more proud of the work that Community Living is doing to promote the stories and needs of the Developmental Services sector. Adequate supports for people with intellectual disabilities and their loved ones are essential to creating a community where everyone belongs. This segment from last night's episode of The Agenda is a powerful reminder of why we need to further raise public awareness of the sector, and advocate for investments that will allow people to continue to access the services of their choosing, where and how they want them. #5ToSurvive
Following Ontario's Budget 2024 announcement, Community Living Ontario and Community Living Toronto continue to advocate for the #5ToSurvive campaign, emphasizing the need for additional funding for the Developmental Services Sector. On May 27, CEO of Community Living Ontario Chris Beesley and Council Treasurer Niko Pupella joined by NDP MPP Monique Taylor and Susan Silma, LLB, MBA, a sibling and Board Member of Community Living Toronto, appeared on TVO's The Agenda for a discussion on #5ToSurvive campaign. They highlighted the necessity of increasing base budgets, addressing current issues, waitlists and discussed ongoing advocacy priorities and hopes of a better future. World Day of Social Justice 2024: The theme of World Day of Social Justice 2024 is "Bridging Gaps, Building Alliances". The United Nations chose this theme to emphasise the importance of collaboration and partnership in addressing the world's challenges. The goal of social justice is to end discrimination and achieve equality. Everyone should be able to access opportunities, participate equally in society, and have their human rights respected. Since 2007, the World Day of Social Justice has been celebrated on February 20th. Social work in SPFT: Sowing seeds. Nourishing connections. Tending to what emerges. Up for social justice, collective action and relational activism. Views here my own. #social work
I think this is an important and brave question. Critically exploring the existential purpose of a publicly funded service. Huge changes in health, wealth and rights since the welfare state and NHS were formed and we are living in a very different society to then. Services continually evolving to keep up with changing needs, expectations and obligations. Conversations like this may help loosen unconcious attachment to traditional thinking, old paradigms and enable new possibilities. What do we as a society want from Children's social care?
