What is sustainable farming?
Sustainable farming practices improve soil health, plant health, human health and profitability of the farmer. The practices are:
1. No Till
2. No off-farm input
3. Traditional Seed
4. Mulching
5. Cover Cropping
6. Multilayer polycropping
7. Beekeeping
8. Integrated animal husbandry
9. Integrated aquaculture
Agroforestry systems: A sustainable solution🌎
Agroforestry systems combine trees with crops and livestock in the same space, optimizing the use of natural resources and recovering lost biodiversity.
🌳At INARSAC, we focus on reforestation as a key solution to restore degraded areas. What was once a 200-hectare estate dedicated to intensive livestock farming is now a regenerated space thanks to the implementation of these systems👇🏻.
The time to drive sustainability is today🍃!

At Soil Health Action Initaiative, we are committed to promoting suitable agronomic practices that supports soil nutrient enrichment, carbon sink, biodiversity conservation and farmer centerd farming approaches. Practices such as ox-ploughing supports conservation tillage if plough depth is set to appropiate level. However, this requires capacity building, participatory learning and agricultural innovations within different farming systems.

🤔Did you know that #pollination is crucial for maintaining and promoting #biodiversity?
Out of nearly 1,400 crop plants grown worldwide, nearly 80% require pollination❗
That's why pollinators, like bees🐝, are an important part of improving food security worldwide.
However, many farmers are unaware of the important role pollinators can hold.
Our teams work with farmers to teach them new pollinator-friendly farming techniques so they can expand their gardens, increase their harvests, and protect biodiversity! 🌍🌱

‘Land Sparing’ or ‘Land Sharing’? 🤔
An important idea that is being asked in the intersection of agriculture and conservation: should you increase an area of land that is used for agriculture, where farming practices enable biodiversity to be maintained within the landscape (Land Sharing), or should you intensify production on land already in use, restoring or creating non-farmland habitat in agricultural landscapes (Land Sparing)?
In real life terms, it might seem straight forward, but there’s a number of complexities. What we can’t choose to do is nothing, because the population is growing and the demand for resources along with it.
👋 Join us at the LandAlive food and farming conference later this month as we seek to unpick this question: www.landalive.co.uk
Very valid approach, BUT, FARMERS AND PRODUCERS MUST, AS WAS MENTIONED, WANT TO DO IT.. THEY MUST REALIZE THAT NOT ONLY IS IT THE HEALTHY SUSTAINABLE APPROACH, BUT ALSO THE MOST FINANCIALLY BENEFICIAL APPROACH IE.
1.30% OF CHEMICAL INPUT COST CAN BE SAVED IN THE FIRST SEASON
2.THERE IS ZERO NEGATIVE EFFECT ON NATURAL RESOURCES OR LIFE.
3 UNDER REGENERATIVE FARMING THERE IS NOT ONLY HUGE SAVING ON INPUT AND ENERGY COST... BUT FROM YEAR 1 THERE IS A STEADY RISE IN HARVEST QUALITY, QUANTITY AND TREMENDOUS REDUCTION IN WATER CONSUMPTION,
4.THE MOST IMPORTANT FACET:. NATURE WAS DESIGNED IN GODLY WISDOM AS A CLOSED SELFSUSTAINING BIOLOGICAL CYCLE. THE REGENERATIVE PRINCIPLES IS BASED UPON RESTORING RECLOSURE OF THAT CIRCLE (IN MY PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE IT TAKES 3 TO MAKS 7 YEARS TO CLOSE. AFTER THAT WHAT REMAINS IS SOWING, WATERING, HARVESTING, MANAGING COVERCROPS AND YOUR ANIMALS(BE IT CATTLE, CHICKENS, SHEEP OR ELEPHANTS), FEEDING CYCLES AND YES... START TO ENJOY FARMING AGAIN.. IF YOU WANT TO ADD TO THE ABOVE, PLEASE BE MY GUEST.

Agroforestry is a game-changer for smallholder farmers! By integrating trees with crops and livestock, it fosters biodiversity, improves soil health, and provides economic stability. This multifaceted approach not only helps farmers adapt to climate change but also plays a significant role in mitigating its effects. Let's support sustainable practices that empower our farmers and protect our planet! 🌳💚 #Agroforestry#ClimateResilience#SustainableFarming
Did you know? 🌿 Kwetu Training Centre, in partnership with VI Agroforestry, is driving positive change in Kilifi County through the Farming for Environment and Economic Development (FEED) project.
By promoting climate-resilient farming practices, biodiversity conservation, and financial inclusion, this initiative helps smallholder farmers secure food supplies, generate income, and restore degraded lands. Farmers also gain technical skills in beekeeping, poultry farming, and tree nursery establishment.
Together with local communities and stakeholders, we are building sustainable livelihoods and a greener future for all. 💚
