The cost of transporting packages is a major concern. As per a recent report by FarEye - 'Eye on the Last Mile 2.0' - there is a shift in strategy from customer satisfaction to a performance-based approach, with cost-per-delivery being the top key performance indicator (KPI) of 78% of leaders in 2023, a significant increase from 55% in 2022. The air freight industry is gearing up for a peak season surge. Shippers need to secure long-term capacity agreements to avoid unpredictable market fluctuations. With e-commerce booming, ocean disruptions in the Red Sea, and rising manufacturing activity, air cargo spot rates have soared 17% YoY. Experts predict this trend will continue through August, with some airlines already eyeing peak season surcharges. To mitigate risk, shippers are shifting towards longer-term contracts, with 28% opting for agreements exceeding six months in Q2 2024.
