Our EVOkit was utilized to catalyze the reductive kinetic resolution reaction for the enantioenrichment of organoperoxides.  While unspecific peroxygenases (UPOs) have been extensively used as powerful oxyfunctionalizing catalyst, this research is the first example of using UPOs in the reduction of organoperoxides. Interestingly, one UPO from our EVOkit showed totally reversed stereoselectivity, highlighting again great diversity of our UPOs collection. In general, UPOs displayed robust catalytic activity in the kinetic resolution reactions of model substrate with high turnover numbers. I'm excited to share a piece of my PhD. In this work, we aimed to combine the great site selectivity of the thianthrenation reaction with the directing group strategy in order to selectively difunctionalize arenes. We developed two different sulfoxides that are introduced to arenes para selectively and subsequently, the corresponding sulfonium moiety is used not only as versatile linchpin but also as directing group. For the first time, we show here directing groups that are introduced via a C-H activation step to form aryl sulfonium salts through which 2,4- and 3,4-difunctionalization of arenes is possible. https://lnkd.in/eeRxFRPX

Congratulations to Byeongseok Kweon, Lukas Blank, Julia Soika, Amélia Messara and Constantin G. Daniliuc on publication of their "Regio- and Stereo-Selective Isomerization of Borylated 1,3-Dienes Enabled by Selective Energy Transfer Catalysis" in Angewandte Chemie! This Ru-photocatalysed process was inspired by the prevalence of C5 sorbic acid motifs in the bioactive small molecule repertoire. We have therefore developed a borylated scaffold in which the traceless BPin group can been leveraged to subtly bifurcate the chromophore in the product. This allows a directional isomerization to be achieved by selective energy transfer catalysis.
