Nuclear EPC vs. Nuclear Manufacturing in Ontario. This is for those who want to know where to put their money in. Since fall of oil and gas projects and crisis that destroyed Calgary booming market. Nuclear Industry has picked up the load with refurbishment projects in OPG, Bruce Power and other Candu plants across the world. Now with building new SMR plants ( Darlington and Bruce Power) in Canada along with upcoming Pickering Units 5,6,7&8 refurbishment on initial phases billions more will be pumped into this industry. Since 10 years ago number of EPC companies doing Nuclear Engineering work in Canada has tripled but at the same time number of Manufacturing companies serving Nuclear sector has remained the same. This has overloaded these companies with many projects, resulting in many doubling their workforce to coup with extra work. As a specialized field you would enjoy little competition in the market with only expensive American companies as your major competitors. Nuclear power is the REAL deal! Staggering statistics for a true carbon free, long term power generation, particularly in the Southeast: “It analyzed the regional- and state-level economic impact of the nuclear industry in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. The five-state region generates approximately 37 percent of its electricity from nuclear power plants. According to the report, nuclear power plants in the region have an estimated annual economic impact of $42.9 billion. This corresponds to 152,598 jobs and $13.7 billion in labor income. The study also estimated that future investments in nuclear power plants in the region would yield a two-to-one economic output-to-input ratio.” https://lnkd.in/euYCQvCp

Just in case anyone believes the Government’s and some expert commentators lie that “the case for nuclear (energy) in Australia has never been done”, check out the “Inquiry Into Nuclear Prohibition”, completed for the Victorian Government in 2020 by a former Director Engineering of ANSTO. The “Submission Summary” reads. “ The pressing requirement to replace at least 20 GWe of retiring dispatchable coal fired electricity generation plant in Victoria and other States over the next few decades presents an unprecedented opportunity to financially stabilise the sector and provide significant flow on manufacturing growth to Victoria and the economy as a whole. A nuclear power electricity generation investment program is shown to be the least cost alternative of all current viable power station replacement options by the OECD - NEA and Australian engineering studies. Subject to final feasibility study, all technical and economic assessment to date indicates that the introduction of a progressive nuclear power investment program will provide minimum cost reliable supply while significantly decarbonising the sector in line with international expectations and agreements”. A nuclear industry could re-energise our heavy engineering / manufacturing sector which used to be capable of manufacturing the types of high quality processing equipment needed in such facilities - if our government seriously believes we can manufacture nuclear submarines here, we could manufacture components for nuclear energy facilities.

The Palisades nuclear plant in Michigan is set to become the first shuttered nuclear facility in the US to resume energy production, thanks to a $1.5 billion conditional loan from the US Department of Energy. The plant's owner, Holtec International, will receive the loan through the Department of Energy's Title 17 Clean Energy Financing Program, which is part of the Inflation Reduction Act signed into law in 2022. This funding will allow the 800 MW Palisades plant to restart operations, which was shut down in 2022 after over 50 years of service. However, the plan to reopen Palisades still requires approval from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and Holtec estimates the process could take another 18 months before the plant is fully operational again. As the world moves away from traditional fossil fuels towards clean energy alternatives, the demand for nuclear power ☢️ has increased, energy suppliers are faced with the challenge of producing facilities that meet national and international quality and safety requirements while staying on time and within budget. UK-based company Sheffield Forgemaster says it is on track to regain #ASME status as a supplier of heavy forgings and castings to the civil nuclear market, to position it for the proposed large-scale expansion of nuclear power capacity in the country. Quality assurance and accreditation are extremely important to reassure customers that their nuclear power plants are safe and resilient in all circumstances. Following ASME recommendations mean that they can supply castings and forgings (materials) for civil nuclear applications and be qualified to perform welding engineering activities on these materials.👏🏾☢️🌍💡.

🚨 BREAKING NEWS The UK government has announced that the procurement for STEP will launch on 22 May. Engineering and construction companies will be invited to bid for up to £600 million to build the first commercially viable fusion prototype power plant at a former coal plant in Nottinghamshire. The announcement is part of a press release relating to the UK's investment in next generation nuclear technologies and fuel. Also announced, a consultation that proposes designating all fusion plants nationally significant infrastructure projects that will be assessed by the Planning Inspectorate and ultimately decided on by the Secretary of State for energy. Paul Methven, CEO, UK Industrial Fusion Solutions, responsible for the delivery of STEP, said: “We are looking towards a very significant milestone for STEP in the next two weeks as we are set to launch our search for industrial partners in engineering and construction who will join us in designing and delivering the STEP prototype plant at West Burton. This will demonstrate that fusion energy can work, and through that endeavour, we will develop an industry that can deliver commercial fusion for decades beyond. “The launch of formal consultation on a National Policy Statement for fusion energy is very welcome and an important milestone in the journey towards a new energy source, deployed in the right way. It reflects the UK’s proactive leadership in fusion energy by putting in place the critical enablers that all fusion developments will need, and in a way that will bring communities and the public along.” See the full release https://lnkd.in/ePjqd2A6
