  • Uninterrupted. 24 hours a day. No excuses. For over 50 years we have supported the Continuous At Sea Deterrent (CASD). As the UK’s largest nuclear service provider, our 10,000 nuclear capable employees maintain the entire UK fleet of nuclear-powered submarines, supporting the cornerstone of our national defence. Today, we welcomed Minister for Defence Procurement and Industry, the Rt Hon Maria Eagle MP, to officially open our Submarine Availability Support Hub in Bristol. This bespoke facility offers a step change in submarine support, bringing together partners and experts from across the Defence Nuclear Enterprise including Babcock, the UK Ministry of Defence, the Submarine Delivery Agency and the UK's Royal Navy, demonstrating how collaboration between industry and government is strengthening Britain's submarine enterprise as part of a critical national endeavour. We’re creating more than 100 new jobs at the Hub, providing careers for people passionate about our industry, as we continue to invest in supporting the development of nuclear skills and defence infrastructure in the South West of England, ensuring we can continue delivering the capability the Royal Navy needs for years to come. • A major milestone has been reached as the UK Vanguard Class submarine HMS VICTORIOUS has entered our 9-Dock facility in Devonport, in readiness to undertake the next phase of her Deep Maintenance Period (DMP). As part of a £560 million-pound contract to modernise and refit HMS VICTORIOUS, supporting more than 1,000 jobs across the South West of England, moving the submarine into dock enables us to deliver the work required to return this critical national defence asset back to the Royal Navy, to continue operational patrols into the 2030s . This move follows the official opening of 9 Dock, by Minister for Defence Procurement and Industry, The Right Honourable Maria Eagle MP, where we carried out the most significant package of infrastructure work since the early 2000s. We’re proud to work with our customers and partners to support the UK’s Continuous at Sea Deterrent and the long-term defence of the nation.

  • Data and digital technology are shaping the future of defence. Today, Dr Tim Wilkinson, our Head of Technical Strategy, addressed the audience at the Mobile Deployable Communications Conference, talking about what the future solutions could look like and how they could prove a gamechanger in the market. In his talk, entitled ‘Enduring considerations in the development of future tactical networks’, he said: “The agility of modern warfare requires adaptable forces capable of maintaining consistent communication and situational awareness to sustain operational advantage. Today’s data driven age is driving the requirement for military tactical communications networks that can operate at greater ranges, providing secure data exchange with increasing bandwidths and reducing latency. Solutions that support multi-domain warfare and international interoperability are essential in the delivery of networks that can connect any sensor with any effector.” We’re at the conference today and tomorrow, so if you’re in attendance then come and talk to us about our work in deployed battlefield communications and networking solutions, remote and autonomous systems enabled networking, wideband high frequency and satellite communications technologies.
