I dont think it is much of a stretch to say that Ritz Carlton is the gold standard for customer service. I have been reading Horst Schulze's book, Excellence Wins, and it has been interesting to see the mentality that he had when he was building Ritz into a behemoth. He coined something that he calls the "Four Supreme Objectives of Any Organization That Wants To Succeed." They are: 1. Keep the customer 2. Get New customers 3. Encourage the customers to spend as much as possible!- but WITHOUT sabotaging Objective Number One. 4. In all of the above, keep working toward more and more efficiency. Visitor patterns have changed since the pandemic - today, a successful mixed use destination has it's own 'brand', defined by the unique blend of services/ leisure/ wellness/hospitality/ retail that increases dwell time and pull people in from morning to night. 👗 Increase in international entrants to UK retail, particularly from the US - these brands are translated differently here in London, where there is less space than their US market equivalents; while not able to carry the same breadth of lines, the range of townhouse concepts and boutiques offer a more engaging shopping experience. 🥘 It's exciting to see a huge increase in big international hospitality names looking to open in London - particularly from the Middle East and Europe - furthering London's reputation as a world leading restaurant destination and bringing with them a greater focus on service and luxury design. It is also why the hospitality industry continues to grow by shrinking. “Consolidation endures in the lodging sector as hotel brand and/or management companies as expanding mass and distribution is key to remaining competitive,” said Dan Lesser, co-founder, president and CEO of LW Hospitality Advisors. “There are many independent brands or smaller collections of brands that can scale by leveraging large brand family loyalty platforms.” Is partnership the new M&A? Maybe not. It’s more of an offshoot or hybrid form of M&A, as LWHA’s Lesser said. But it’s not going away; in fact, it will increase. “We will see more of it because everyone is under pressure to grow and it’s an easy way to do that,” Lesser said.
