🌳It is estimated that $44 trillion of economic value is dependent on #biodiversity and the ecosystem services it provides - equivalent to 50% of global GDP. Despite this, FAIRR’s recent progress report on the Waste and Pollution engagement, finds that major pork and poultry producers have made little progress when evaluating #pollution risks in their animal #SupplyChains. 🏭Additionally, the report finds that the level of disclosure from these companies does not meet investor expectations, especially regarding operations found to be at medium or high risk on water quality indicators. 🥩 How does cultivated meat compare with conventional meat on environmental metrics? Cultivating meat from cells has clear environmental benefits, as the production can cut the climate impact by up to 92%, reduce air pollution by up to 94%, and use up to 90% less land compared with farming animals. Cultivated meat has the potential to reduce the environmental impact of our food system, cater to growing global meat demand, and feed more people with fewer resources. For this to happen, we need public sector investment in open-access research to overcome key bottlenecks and support the growth of the entire sector. European governments need to step up with their support to ensure that Europe does not fall behind on this game-changing food. Today we mark #WorldWaterDay 💧🌍 Water is a precious resource that should never be taken for granted. According to the United Nations, an estimated 1.8 billion people will be living in areas with an absolute scarcity of water by next year. At the European level, water scarcity and droughts are becoming more frequent and widespread. The increased focus on water resilience and management in agriculture at policy level highlights the gravity of the issue. This includes the longstanding #WaterFrameworkDirective and the more recent #WaterReuseRegulation which aims to encourage and facilitate water reuse in the EU. Beyond this, the #WaterResilienceInitiative, which is currently on hold, is another indication for the broader need to address the increased threat of water scarcity in Europe. At Grodan we recognise that agriculture has a big role here, with over 70% of freshwater being used for agriculture. Controlled Environment Agriculture (#CEA) tools are part of the solution, helping growers use water more efficiently, and avoid wastage at the same time, with savings up to 50% compared to open systems.

💧💧💧World Water Day💧💧💧 70% of the world’s fresh water is consumed by Agriculture, and it’s the main water pollutant. Which means, that if we focus on treating Agricultural wastewater, we can move the needle!! What is in AgWater? Nutrients! From fertilizer and animal waste. This nutrients end up in our ecosystems, killing life. Costing the global economy over $1.5 trillion annually, on its impact on human health and ecosystems. We need to fix this. At MicroTERRA, we clean water by growing an aquatic plant called Lemna. Lemna grows fast, absorbing large amounts of nitrogen from Greenhouses. We then upcycle and transform Lemna into functional and sustainable ingredients for the food and beverage industry. Our first product, is Flora. Flora is in high demand, and as we scale our business we scale our impact. #worldwaterday #sdg6 #sustainability #nitrogenrunoff

Today, as we mark World Water Day, it’s crucial to reflect on the theme set by the UN this year: the importance of a well-functioning and equitably managed water cycle for our health, prosperity, and the planet. Water plays a critical role in combating poverty, environmental degradation, and safeguarding food security. But freshwater resources are under unprecedented strain. Industrial agriculture is a major water consumer and polluter, leading to depleted water reserves and quality. It accounts for 70% of global freshwater withdrawals, with a significant portion lost due to inefficiency and pollution. As a result, we are seeing a steady depletion of both surface water and aquifers. Set against the backdrop of a rapidly growing population, the need to find less water intensive ways of feeding the world has never been more important. Vertical farming can provide a sustainable alternative for crop cultivation, using up to 95% less water than industrial farming, without the use of chemicals. The infrastructure for this revolutionary technique can be established in even the most water-scare regions, promoting food security and economic independence. At Fischer Farms, our closed-loop system means water waste is minimised. In this way, we can preserve one of the world’s most precious natural resources, whilst still delivering much-needed fresh produce to feed the nation. Let's celebrate World Water Day by embracing innovative solutions like vertical farming that help preserve our planet for future generations. #WorldWaterDay #VerticalFarming #Sustainability #Innovation #WaterConservation

A research from University of Reading highlights a concerning trend: air pollution disproportionately affects vital pollinators like bees and butterflies, reducing their ability to forage by 39%. This poses a serious threat not only to these crucial creatures but also to our broader agricultural systems and food security. As pollinators struggle against pollutants that leave pests unscathed, the call for stricter air quality regulations becomes more urgent to safeguard our environment and ensure the sustainability of our food supplies. 📣 GREAT NEWS! While I wholly agree with this recommendation, the headline puts the onus on the consumer instead of also urging production of meat and dairy to be halved, as well as encouraging institutions and facilities that serve these foods and food products to commit to sourcing less of it. The current industrial meat and dairy industries need to be recognized as significant contributors to #greenhousegas emissions, #biodiversity loss and land erosion. This doesn't mean cutting out these foods completely, but it emphasizes the absolute urgency there is with shifting what we produce/serve/procure/eat/demand/subsidize and advocate for. We all have a part to play. #producelessmeat #eatlessmeat #servelessmeat #regionspecific #plantbased #plantforward #chefs #dietitians
👏 BIG NEWS! 👏 A UN report has recommended that halving meat and dairy consumption is one of the best ways to reduce nitrogen pollution. This is equal to about 500 grams of meat a week - and would help achieve the UN aim of halving nitrogen waste by 2030. It is best deployed alongside other measures like reducing food waste, and storing manure more efficiently. Dr Adrian Leip, environmental scientist at the European Commission and lead editor of the report, said: “Plant-based diets require less land and fertilisers, reduce energy use and increase our resilience to the current multi-crises: food, energy, climate. Freeing up land to restore habitats would help tackle the climate and biodiversity crises.” See the press release/link to the report here: https://lnkd.in/e86cMeiu #food #meat #plantbased #lessandbettermeat #climatechange #climatecrisis #biglivestock #defundbiglivestock

End #Slaugherhouses End #Wars! Have you ever wondered about the #aggressive negative #energy it takes to #slaughter a living entity an #animal or for that matter a human! We all sense vibes, good #vibes bad vibes when we walk into a room or sense something has happened to a loved one from across the world. These vibes travel faster than light and infiltrate our very souls. Have you ever stopped to think why generations of leaders can’t prevent war! Why people qaurel? Could the mass #slaughter of animals, to eat, have anything to do with the vibe of aggression in the world! Vibes spread to our deepest #subconscious. Have you thought about what the world would be like - what difference it would make to the vibe, the energy on the planet if the dark #aggression of the #slaughterhouses was ended? Could this just be the missing #link to reducing agression in the world! To end wars end #quarrels- even the best #thinkers and leaders have failed to end wars - so there must be a missing link. It seems far out but there is some logic to it in my view - stop the slaughter of animals and you stop the mode of aggression - its the same agression that leads to wars to #quarrel and ultimately to the slaughter of #human beings.

Agriculture plays a vital role in sustaining our expanding global population. However, it's important to acknowledge that it poses significant risks to both agricultural workers and the natural environment. Exposure to noxious gases and dangerous chemicals is a prevalent hazard in this sector. As such, it is imperative to implement rigorous safety protocols and actively work towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions, thereby safeguarding our planet and those who nourish it. Check out our application note for more information on the hazards and control measures. https://ow.ly/Exh150SW1Ll #Agriculture #SafetyFirst #EnvironmentProtection #Sustainability
