Our deepest motivation stems from self-awareness and our connection to the natural world. Dingoes and the discriminate, lethal targeting of them is our third animal of focus as we continue to support 20 animals and their advocates. Did you know that dingoes are Australia’s only endemic canine and are a keystone species, that help to keep our ecosystems in balance? Since European occupation, Dingoes have been labelled as an invasive species and provided no protection. Considered a serious threat to farmed animals, particularly sheep, they are targeted with cruel management practices, all of which cause unacceptable suffering. These include poison-baiting campaigns, trapping and shooting, traps laced with poison and bounty programs that incentivise their killing. Dingoes are culturally significant animals to First Nations peoples and are a regular feature of Indigenous culture. Thanks to the impressive work of the Dingo advocacy organisation, Dingo Culture, a dedicated First Nations voice to the Dingo debate in Australia has been created to change legislation to protect this iconic animal. Congratulations 👏. This is a reminder that we would love the help of our dedicated community in choosing the final 10 animals in need of protection and the animal groups who are helping them. If we don't understand that most of the time, "we do what our friends and families do," then much of our impact will be lost.
