Every state is different but Georgia starts school back at the beginning of August so school supplies are in demand now for the first day of school. Back-to-school shopping starts now The school year just ended — but retailers are already looking ahead to the next one, and they want to bring parents along for the ride, Reuters reports. Walmart, Target and Shein are all offering deals, hoping to snag those back-to-school dollars before Amazon does. The e-commerce giant's annual Prime Day sale is set for July 16 and 17; last year, U.S. shoppers spent $12.7 billion during the event and notched Amazon's biggest single day of sales ever. Back-to-school spending overall hit $135.5 billion, for students in kindergarten through college, per the National Retail Federation. #pencils #paper #pens

𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗛𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲, 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻 𝗢𝗻 𝗔𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗼𝗻 🔵🔴🟢 🛍 In 2023, Walmart's online sales reached $100 billion for the first time. They did really well in the last part of the year, beating what people expected them to earn. 🛍 #Walmart, mainly known for its physical stores, saw a big 23% increase in online sales, making more than $100 billion. This puts them closer to Amazon, but #Amazon is still way ahead with $255.9 billion in sales. Walmart's big sales number shows they are becoming stronger as they try to catch up to Amazon and grow in their own way. 🛍 Doug McMillon, Walmart's boss, said that being big really helps them. They are changing their stores and how they deliver things to be better for customers. They are now working hard to put everything together. McMillon believes they can keep growing because they are good at giving customers what they want, at a good price and easily. They are also making their delivery system smarter and faster. 🛍 Walmart is also getting more into technology. They are buying a home and TV company, VIZIO, for $2.3 billion to keep growing, even though sales might slow down a bit soon. 🛍 For the last part of the year, their earnings were better than expected at $1.80 per share. But they made less money overall, with $5.5 billion. Investors liked this and Walmart's stock price went up. 🛍 Walmart's online sales aren't making money yet, but they're getting there. They hope to make money from online sales by also making money from ads and helping other brands sell things on their website. 🛍 Sales went up by 5.7% to $173.4 billion, with online sales and their ad business doing really well. In the U.S., Walmart's sales went up 4%. They did well in food and health, but not so much in other things like home goods and toys, which got cheaper. 🛍 McMillon said they're selling more in fashion and other areas, and even people who earn a lot are shopping at Walmart. The number of people shopping at Walmart in the U.S. went up, but they spent a bit less on average. 🛍 John Furner, who runs Walmart in the U.S., said they're seeing more customers, including new ones. They're also doing more same-day deliveries, which helps the brand. Walmart's total sales went up 6% to $648.1 billion last year. They expect to keep growing this year, but a bit slower. 🛍 Walmart has been growing for a long time, but recently they've focused more on online sales and new technology. McMillon talked about their fast delivery services, including drone delivery, which they've already used a lot and plan to expand. This focus on fast and new ways of delivering might help Walmart keep growing their sales. #Walmart #Ecommerce #OnlineSales #Retail #RetailInnovation #EcommerceTrends #RetailStrategy #CustomerExperience

Amazon’s Prime Day has once again showcased its significant influence on the U.S. economy. With shoppers spending approximately $7.2 billion online on the first day alone, the ripple effects on the retail landscape are profound. Major players like Walmart and Target have responded with competitive sales, creating a bustling shopping season that drives consumer spending during a typical slow time. This fierce competition and the strategic timing around back-to-school shopping have led to a notable 11.7% increase in total online sales on July 16 compared to previous months. According to Reuters, the average spend per order also saw an uptick, indicating robust consumer confidence and spending power. This phenomenon not only benefits retailers but also stimulates various sectors, from logistics to marketing. Prime Day’s model of offering deep discounts and early access deals pulls forward demand, setting new benchmarks for retail strategies and consumer expectations. As we see increased spending in categories like electronics, apparel, and toys, the overall economic boost is undeniable. In essence, events like Prime Day are not just about sales figures—they're pivotal in shaping economic trends, driving innovation in retail, and enhancing consumer engagement. https://lnkd.in/dBah27Nj #HalifaxWest #WinTogether #capitaladvisory #MandA #restructuring #operatingadvisory #Ecommerce #RetailTrends #AmazonPrimeDay #EconomicImpact #ConsumerSpending

Amazon plans ‘Big Spring Sale’ that’s not just for Prime members starting March 20 Amazon will host a spring sale next week with discounts on seasonal items, and this one is not restricted to Prime members. Amazon said Thursday that the event, which it’s calling the “Big Spring Sale,” will run for six days starting March 20, in North America. Unlike the Prime Day discount bonanza typically held in the summer, next week’s event will be open to shoppers who don’t pay for a Prime membership. The subscription program costs $139 per year, or $14.99 a month, in the U.S., and perks include free, speedy shipping; video streaming; and access to exclusive Prime Day deals. Spring fashion, fitness products, outdoor furniture, Amazon-branded devices and other “warm weather essentials” are among the categories that will be discounted, Amazon said. It’s the first time Amazon has held such an event in the first quarter. In recent years, Amazon has added shopping events, including a “Prime Big Deal Days” in the fall, a 48-hour “Pet Day” and a beauty-focused sale ahead of the holiday shopping season. The company is launching its spring event as shoppers, grappling with high inflation, remain hungry for discounts. Inflation has receded from its 40-year highs in mid-2022, but it remains above the Federal Reserve’s 2% goal. Consumer prices rose more than expected last month, increasing 3.2% in February from a year earlier, the U.S. Department of Labor said Tuesday. Amazon also faces rising competition from low-cost retailers Temu and Shein, which have been on an ad-spending blitz to attract American shoppers. Shein mostly offers deeply discounted apparel and accessories. Temu is akin to an online flea market and has seen its popularity boom due to its rock-bottom prices and a gamified shopping experience. Amazon's Prime Day, projected to generate around US $ 14 billion in spending this week, marks a pivotal event in online retail. According to Adobe Analytics, spending during the two-day extravaganza is expected to rise by 10.5% compared to last year, showcasing its growing influence in the market. Originally launched a decade ago, Prime Day has evolved into a retail juggernaut, now constituting 1% to 2% of Amazon's global sales. This year, shoppers can expect enticing deals on a wide range of products from clothes and electronics to wellness items and back-to-school essentials. Amazon's decision to shift Prime Day later in July hasn't dampened enthusiasm, with early promotions already stirring anticipation amongst bargain hunters. Competitors like Walmart and Target are also gearing up with their own discounts, eyeing a share of the estimated US $ 38.8 billion Americans plan to spend on back-to-school items. As Adobe predicts, Amazon could see a staggering US $ 7.1 billion in sales on Day-1 alone, driven by substantial discounts on clothing and sporting goods. Walmart is offering half off Walmart+ memberships until July 18, ahead of Amazon's Prime Day on July 16 and 17. Until July 18, Walmart is offering Walmart+ memberships for $49 a year, or half off the usual $98 fee. The rivalry between Walmart and Amazon continues, with Walmart aiming to attract customers from the e-commerce giant. Walmart's CFO mentioned that delivery orders surpassed in-store pickup orders, and Walmart+ members are ordering more frequently with fewer items, resembling Amazon shoppers. Walmart has been expanding its marketplace of third-party sellers and utilizing its physical locations to fulfill online orders. The company is implementing upgrades in its stores to boost sales, both in-store and online. Walmart is adopting strategies similar to Target and Amazon to attract and retain customers. #walmart #amazon #primeday #usretail
