I'm diving into a thought-provoking book that sheds light on the darkest aspects of human history. The Atlantic Slave trade. It’s called The Narrative of Frederick Douglass. This powerful narrative explores the depths of human greed and the atrocities committed in the name of forced labor. It's a stark reminder that over 50 million individuals are still trapped in modern-day slavery. The story of Frederick Douglass, shared by a man who experienced the horrors of slavery firsthand, is both unique and compelling. The vivid descriptions and detailed accounts evoke a range of emotions, from anger to a deep sense of responsibility. As a black man, I've delved into numerous books detailing the history of western societies. Now, I urge everyone to take the time to uncover this important piece of black history. It may be uncomfortable, but it challenges us to confront our stance on both sides of history. #BlackHistory #FredrickDouglass #HumanRights #Education #Reflection #BookRecommendation #VOC #Slavery

If you try to be what you can be. Hey Black Child, Do you know where you’re going? Where you’re really going? Do you know you can learn What you want to learn? If you try to learn What you can learn? Hey Black Child, Do you know you are strong? I mean really strong? Do you know you can do What you want to do? If you try to do What you can do? Hey Black Child, Be what you can be Learn what you must learn Do what you can do And tomorrow your nation will be what you want it to be #earlychildhoodeducation #heyblackchild

In chapter 12, Johnny Speed’s virulent racism is exposed. Who is Johnny Speed well he transformed into J.Edgar Hoover, a man whose seeming sole purpose was the destruction of black people's unity. This chapter dives into the White mobbing of 1919, the leadership of Marcus Garvey, Stokley Carmichael, Fred Hampton, Bobby Seale, Huey Newton, Fred Shuttlesworth, Malcolm X, Alice Faye Williams, and COINTELPRO is exposed. I’ve always had awesome male mentors, bosses & sponsors in construction & life. (PS - when it’s only 3-10% of ”you” in an industry, you need to work with those who are the 90% to initiate the change). I could join 4000 women’s orgs - & I align with the ones I feel are making meaningful strides of needle-moving. But I’m also here to say if we don’t make safe spaces for men in leadership to unpack what TRULY needs to be done - we’re not getting anywhere. I’m 47 & that needle has only moved a few percentage points in the 25 years I’ve been around. STEM? Women can claim at least 30% in the industry in the same 25 years & that’s thanks to many male c-suites getting on board w/ “authentic vulnerability.” Guys: I’m swinging a pendulum, not a bat. Read it & let’s get vulnerable about how we can help you in your seat or your company explore this change. #diversityequityinclusion #weneedmensconferences #womenalreadygetit #womenintrades #tradesarestem

HE COULD NEITHER READ NOR WRITE Harry Hosier, known as "Black Harry," was a former slave who became a powerful preacher attracting large audiences, both black and white. God used him to breach racial and cultural barriers of his day and he became a close friend of Francis Asbury, the founder of American Methodism, and they often preached together in large conferences. You can learn more about Harry in Lesson 2 called "The Great Awakening." To see a list of all the lessons, click this link. https://lnkd.in/gPajGdGZ
