What impact will a big breakfast have with just a little bit of fruit on the side? Day 6 explores the impact of mixing proteins with fat and fruits. Spoiler: The impact was not huge and was short lived with 30 minutes to peak and 30 minutes longer back to baseline. So, lesson here is mix fruit with proteins and fasts and don't 'over indulge' in the fruit. Artical about LIVER FAILURE Acute liver failure refers to the development of severe acute liver injury with impaired synthetic function (INR of ≥1.5) and altered mental status in a patient without cirrhosis or preexisting liver disease [2-4]. A commonly used cutoff to define acute liver failure is an illness duration of <26 The Acute Liver Failure Study Group (ALFSG) is a clinical research network funded by the National Institutes of Health since 1997, to gather important prospective data and biosamples on this rare condition. Acute liver failure is loss of liver function that occurs quickly — in days or weeks — usually in a person who has no preexisting liver disease. It's most commonly caused by a hepatitis virus or drugs, such as acetaminophen. This is also called “decompensated cirrhosis” — your body can no longer compensate for the losses. As liver functions begin to break down, you'll begin to feel the effects throughout your body. Chronic liver failure is a gradual process, but it is eventually fatal without a liver transplant. In our most recent paper led by Dr. Jagdish Khubchandani from New Mexico State University, we investigated the relationship between breast cancer (BC), depression, and mortality in adult American women. The study included 4719 women, with 5.1% having BC and 12.7% having depression. The adjusted hazard ratio for all-cause mortality risk was 1.50 compared to those without BC. The highest risk was among women with both depression and BC. Factors such as cardiovascular diseases, anemia, smoking, age, PIR, and marital status moderated the relationship. Collaborative healthcare practices should help reduce mortality risk among BC and depression survivors. URL: https://lnkd.in/est_Ucvy

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), now often referred to as metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), affects about 25% of adults worldwide, with strong links to obesity and metabolic syndrome. As these health issues continue to rise globally, NAFLD is becoming a leading cause of liver-related mortality and end-stage liver disease, significantly impacting global healthcare systems. Despite its prevalence, there are no approved therapies for NAFLD, though the gut microbiome has emerged as a promising area of research. Alterations in the gut microbiome have been linked to NAFLD, with gut dysbiosis playing a role in liver fat accumulation, inflammation, and fibrosis. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a cutting-edge approach being explored for NAFLD treatment. By restoring a healthy gut microbial community, FMT has shown potential in improving NAFLD outcomes in animal studies and is currently being evaluated in clinical trials.
