CEO & Owner at The Lava Group Ltd. Our vision is to be recognised as the global leader in safer custody technology. Working towards transforming the future of prisons and the lives of 100M people.
A ratio of guards to prisoners of 10 to 900 is alarming along with the lack of training and supportive technology, leading to lockdowns, escapes, and unsafe conditions for both staff and inmates. This crisis is not isolated but a reflection of a common issue, exacerbated by staffing shortages and inadequate resources. It's time to advocate for urgent reform, innovation, and the implementation of technology in the corrections system. We must support our correctional staff with the tools, training, and numbers they need to ensure safety and rehabilitation. https://lnkd.in/ezJrDvAa

Why do some offenders go to a provincial correctional institution and others go to a federal one? Provincial corrections are for offenders on remand awaiting a court date or who have been sentenced to two years less a day, or less, only. Federal corrections are for offenders who have been sentenced to two years or more. Learn more about the federal correctional process: https://lnkd.in/gtJpzk9E Follow us across social media this fall as we go “back to basics” with a focus on learning about the CSC essentials, why these things are important to know and how we’re changing lives and protecting Canadians. #BackToBasics

From Prison Health Leader to Visionary Entrepreneur: Trailblazing Impact on Criminal Justice and Beyond.
This incident raises crucial questions about trust, boundaries, and the dynamics within the correctional system. It's not just about contraband; it's about the potential erosion of trust between custodial and non-uniformed staff, which can further divide the environment. The fact that an employee, in this case, a nursing supervisor, breached these boundaries by providing an inmate with contraband, a cell phone, highlights a severe issue. It begs the question of whether this could be a case of inmate manipulation, where prisoners exploit any perceived weaknesses in the system. Regardless of the motive, such incidents can undermine the integrity of the correctional facility and the safety of both staff and inmates. Addressing this problem isn't just about punitive measures but also understanding the root causes and implementing reforms to ensure that trust is rebuilt, and such occurrences are minimized to maintain a safe and secure environment.
Another great team effort betweeen Broad Rivers CERT and the Office of Inspector General in ridding our institutions of the corrupt staff. For every person we terminate or arrest we make our prison a little bit safer for the staff, inmates, and the general public.
