If you live in the #DMV and haven’t attended a Hiring Our Heroes event then are your really transitioning from the military? (No, I didn’t get that cringy caption from ChatGPT, I generated it for myself. 😂) Check out the link in Adela Wilson’s post and make sure to register. ➡️ My advice for this event ⬅️ 🪅You don’t have to be within your 180 - days to transition to attend but, set your expectations and goals accordingly. 🪅 The first day is a NETWORKING reception, come ready with your pitch and personality! 🪅Be ready to ask questions regarding the employer BEFORE you consider them as a potential employer. Consider questions about culture, workplace environment etc. Try not to elimate yourself as a candidate by telling them what won’t work for you…it may be too early for that! Questions you can ask ⬇️ 💡Can you tell me more about the company's commitment to hiring veterans?" 💡What ways does your company support veterans transitioning into civilian roles? 💡 Can you describe the company culture and how veterans contribute to it? 💡What specific skills or experiences do you value most in candidates? 💡Can you share a success story of a veteran who has excelled in a role within your organization? 💡How can veterans best position themselves for success within your company?" 🪅Be professional and friendly! 🪅 Have your LinkedIn QR Code ready to share! If you aren’t meeting with the actual hiring manager, and the energy feels right, ask to take a photo with the recruiter and make sure to tag them in your LI post. Got to make a good first impression right? Smiles matter!

🏗 👷♂️ 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐀 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 👷♀️ 🚧 I have so many positive meetings with Tier 1 construction companies, many of which win contracts based on their #socialvalue commitments. I want to make it clear before I go on that I genuinely believe you intend to fulfil these bids toward social value. When I joined Clean Slate Solutions, I thought #constructionjobs would be the easiest industry to get people with convictions into, especially seeing a good portion of these Tier 1 companies attending #prison job fairs. The reality I've found is that construction is the industry I struggle with the most to place people in, which still amazes me even after over three years in this role. The supply chain is vast and varied, making it a complex landscape to navigate – but these are where the most suitable jobs are, for the bulk of the people that we represent. Outside of the occasional Quantity Surveyor and Engineer you may come across in the jail and who the Tier 1 would hire - it’s the supply chain companies and sub contractors who recruit the local labour at the unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled #trades levels that our prisons are full of. And the supply chain normally requires labour as quick as yesterday! While well-intentioned, this business of achieving social value through hiring people with a past conviction can be done better and provide much better results, having a real-life human impact. With all honesty, I believe it will also involve a lot less effort. We need to get the supply chain aware of organisations like Clean Slate Solutions and The Recruitment Junction, who between us cover 5 north east prisons and cover the full north east patch from the Scottish borders down to Yorkshire. Tier 1 constructors, we need you to bring the supply chain to the party, providing real-life job opportunities to people who are desperate for it and skilled men and women to businesses that need it. I want to get the right people around a table—hopefully a big table—to discuss how we can achieve this. So, this table. I want to place three CVs in the middle and ask: 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲? Are you interested in joining this conversation? If so, please comment below and ping me your email address, and I'll set up a date and venue. #SocialValue #Construction #ESG #SecondChances #Collaboration

CEO at RecruitMilitary | Empowering the military community through meaningful career opportunities from top companies
Some people would say RecruitMilitary is in the recruiting business. We say we’re in the business of connections. And here’s why that matters to employers and the veteran community: Effective military recruiting is about more than job boards and career fairs. It’s about priming different audiences to better understand each other. It’s helping employers interpret military community skills and experiences. It’s helping job seekers understand what employers need. It’s helping dismantle false assumptions that both audiences may have about each other. It’s helping communicate successful stories that encourage employers to hire and job seekers to apply. Through our work, we also connect other interested parties - the DOD, VSOs, and other partners. We want to leverage our collective strength to support military community success. There are many great organizations out there, each offering different recruiting services that apply to this niche group. RecruitMilitary’s greatest strength - finding ways to effectively and efficiently connect the relevant audiences to serve their needs.
