CEO at UGLYBUCK® Minerals & Attractants / Fleet Maintenance Supervisor at Fayetteville Public Works Commission
Most do not understand the stress mechanics and fleet technicians deal with on a daily basis. What you see as a simple oil change can turn into a scramble to get out a stripped drain plug or fight off an overtightened oil filter. Be patient with your repair facility, internal Fleet department, or local dealership. We want you to leave with a feeling of satisfaction and leave us with a feeling of accomplishment. Your safety and daily plans rest in our oily and calloused hands. #mechanic #fleetmanagement #autorepair #technician #fleetmaintenance

It's crucial to develop a PM Checklist form and abide by it as it guides you as a Mechanic/Technician to inspect a car/equipment properly when brought in for service as seen in the video where there's a worn-out rubber boot on the CV joint that prevents sand, dust, and mud from piling up leading to damage to the CV Joint and expensive costs in maintenance if not detected and fixed early. Also leakage from the transmission due to worn-out oil seal hence transmission fluid leaks which could result in failure/damage of your transmission system when you're driving/operating it causing expensive maintenance costs if not detected and fixed early. Develop a habit as a driver/operator of performing a walk-around inspection before starting your car/equipment and after use when you park it as it will help you notice such defects as leakages, flat tires, etc. #maintenance #cars #equipment #operator #mechanic #technician #safety #repair

Mechanic #1 "Why does the CSA Standard Z150 require a boom teardown inspection? It all looks good to me when telescoped out." Inspector "The teardown is to see what's inside, things we can't see when telescoped or from inspection ports." After doing inspection for over 30 years, it is unusual to find cracks during a boom teardown inspection. This does not mean that the teardown is not productive. Damaged hydraulic hoses, leaking telescoping cylinders, worn or missing wear pads, internal mechanical damage, sheared bolts are some of the findings. Here is mechanical damage due to rubbing that was not visible externally. Action can now be taken before this groove is cut too deep.

Conducting regular and scheduled Preventive Maintenance (service) of your car/heavy equipment is very necessary to ensure reliable and efficient performance as well as having the least or no worries while driving/operating it in terms of failure. The mechanic/technician must perform the service as per the planned hours/kilometers reading and check other necessary systems for durabilities such as brakes, suspension, transmission oil, differential oil, tire conditions inflation as well as the condition of wheel studs, fuel and hydraulic pipes conditions for leakage, lighting and their functions e.t.c and not the change of engine oil and filter as it's has become a custom in many garages/workshop. Highly recommend washing your vehicle/equipment before taking it for service as it's not only a safety practice but ensures defects that need fixing are easily detected and the work is cleaned thoroughly. #service #engine #cars #heavyequipment #maintenance #safety #health
