Do you have any spare cans or dry goods in your pantry? Conversely, are you currently having a hard time getting food on the table? I’ve been getting more involved in mutual aid in ATX and was *so happy* to learn about ATXFreeFridge, a community-led project to help get necessary sustenance to people with food insecurity. The fridges are in easily accessible places around town, and volunteers help clean out the fridges and keep them tidy- all spots also have food pantry shelves! Donors can bring pantry staples, produce, and even pre-cooked meals as long as they are in labeled containers. ✨SO here’s a call to action- ✨ if you have some extra food (or even an extra $10 to get a few extra cans and bags of rice with), please consider looking at mutual aid options in your own community and taking the time to donate. And if you *need* food, your community may be a helpful resource to lean on in this time.

Facing the choice between essentials like milk or electricity, eggs or medications, and even poultry or housing shouldn't be a reality for anyone. Yet, for 1 in 3 of our neighbors facing food insecurity across Massachusetts, these are some of the tough decisions they have to make daily. Thank you to Esha Walia and Boston Globe Media for their recent article highlighting how grocery prices have surged 25% since 2019, forcing twice as many families to seek food assistance compared to pre-pandemic levels and making affording nutritious food more difficult than ever. That’s why GBFB exists. We are here to help and fuel the charitable food system that is responding to this chronic surge in food assistance need. With our purchasing power, we acquire and distribute healthy free food to our neighbors facing food insecurity through a robust network of 600 community partners. That means for every $1 you donate, 2 meals will be provided to a neighbor in need across the 190 cities and towns we serve. Together, we have the power to put healthy meals on our neighbors' tables and end hunger here. Check out The Boston Globe article mentioned to learn more: https://lnkd.in/dGYTWGFc

When you love food, it's natural to want to enjoy it, share it, learn from it, and not waste it. Food Stash rescues more food than ever before - the equivalent of more than 90,000 meals each month - and makes sure this nutritious food gets to where it’s needed through programs like our Rescued Food Market, and by delivering food to 35 community partner organizations for their much-needed programs. This is good food that wasn't sold because it didn’t look perfect, or because there was too much of it at a certain place and time. It takes time, strategy, resources, and a lot of cooperation to find this surplus food and quickly get it to where it’s needed - and this is work worth doing. Sharing food is a way of showing care and friendship, and food is just too valuable to waste. Right now, we're fundraising so that we can continue to be there for the community and the planet. Donations to Food Stash will be matched dollar for dollar up to $75,000 until Dec 31, thanks to our generous matching donor, PCI Developments. Help us make the most of this matching: Please donate if you can, and help us spread the word. https://lnkd.in/gb42vKB #giveback #foodstash

The Big Give Christmas Campaign is now live! Square Food Foundation are on a mission to raise £28,400 in 7 days to support our recipe kits. And we need your help! It is a match-funded campaign so every £ will be doubled and make twice the impact. Our kits contain delicious, seasonal, fresh ingredients designed to get families cooking healthy food from scratch. And vitally, it’s a free, hot meal to families in a deprived area. The kits go to 200 families every week via food banks and primary schools. Food Insecurity has doubled in the last year with the cost of living crisis. Our kits are a small way of being part of the solution. We know times are tight and there are a lot of charities asking for help right now. But if you are in a position to give, it will make a BIG difference. Donations will be doubled until midday on 5th December. https://lnkd.in/dCst2dMr

🍽️ Ever wondered about the difference between a food bank and a food shelf? Let's break it down! 🏦 Food Bank: Think of it as a large warehouse that collects, stores, and distributes food to various community organizations like shelters, soup kitchens, and pantries. Food banks often work on a regional or national level, serving a wide area and collaborating with food producers, retailers, and donors to gather surplus food. 🛒 Food Shelf: On the other hand, a food shelf is typically a smaller-scale operation located within a community or neighborhood. It directly serves individuals and families in need by providing them with groceries and essential food items. Food shelves rely heavily on local donations and volunteer efforts to keep their shelves stocked and support their community members. Both play critical roles in combating hunger and food insecurity, but they operate in slightly different ways to serve their communities effectively. Whether you're donating to a food bank or volunteering at a food shelf, your contribution makes a real difference in the lives of those facing hunger.
