A huge thank you to our partners at Bank of America and Merrill Lynch for their incredible support and commitment! Together, we packed 1,000 bags of fresh produce for our Feeding United Home Deliveries program, helping to ensure students at risk of hunger receive the nutritious food they need. Hasler-White Inclusive Facilitation finds the solutions your organisation needs.Rooted in experience, I deliver uniquely inclusive workshops for organisations tackling complex problems & seeking ideas & sustainability.
‘I hate April’. So said someone we are supporting in a foodbank this week. As we at Your Own Place CIC have our own internal conversations about the need to withdraw from foodbanks due to uncertainty and late decision-making on funding, it turns out that the people we support are not unaware of what the end of the financial year means. By early March at the latest, we need to know where our team are going to be in April. No news on funding means we have to start letting people, partners and volunteers in foodbanks know so that we can neatly and respectfully close that service when the funding ends - end of March unless we hear otherwise. The wasteful annual funding cycle means that organisations lose staff, partnerships, momentum and ultimately have to end the service that is so desperately needed and that so much time, trust and money has been leveraged to start. That this has an impact on people and communities is visible and felt as they see projects, organisations and support in communities come and go. 😞 #funding #wasteful #vcse #communities #prevention #safeandsecurehome

Join the Fight for Food Equity by supporting Fireweed Food Co-op! 🥕 ❤️ As some of you may know - I have the honour of co-chairing the board of an amazing Manitoba-based cooperative ( Fireweed Food Co-op ) that looks to build a robust, equitable, and diverse food system for all. We provide social and economic services, reflecting a range of actors in the food system, from farmers to consumers. What we eat impacts the well-being of our communities and planet. Fireweed Food Hub was launched in 2020 by Fireweed Food Co-op to support our mission of reducing barriers and increasing participation in the regional food system for producers and eaters alike. The Food Hub aggregates and distributes local foods to meet wholesale demand to create new markets for local food producers in Manitoba. Fireweed Food Co-op runs the Food Hub, the South Osborne Farmers' Market and the Veggie Van. Through all these initiatives, Fireweed is dedicated to creating a larger, more robust and stable market for locally and sustainably produced food in the region. We are actively working to make good food more accessible to more individuals, families and the community as a whole, with the support of over 60 producer members! 👨🌾 👩🌾 In the past 4 years, Fireweed Food Hub has made a significant impact on small to mid-size local food producers in Manitoba. Sales of local food through our hub has grown from $30K in our first year to just shy of $300K in 2023! 📈 The need is real, and the drive is there! However… It is a challenging time for many non-profit organizations; Fireweed included. While we see the need and continue to grow, we’re finding it incredibly challenging to meet current demand while levelling up the operational side of our organization to support growth. We are meeting this moment by calling on YOU, our community, for support! Did you know that your financial support through membership or a monetary donation will contribute to building a resilient, democratic, sustainable and just regional food system for all Manitobans? What we’re looking for is the gift of time, and your support today will provide just that; as we are about to enter into our peak harvest season! We are excited to come through this busy season and will use the calm that follows to reorganize and come back stronger in the Spring. Fireweed is looking forward to continued growth and connecting local producers to even larger sales channels. But we simply CANNOT make this a reality without your support. Financial support goes directly towards supporting our food hub operations and new market access for local producers, our food security initiatives, and renting our warehouse space. #food #manitobafood #cooperatives To become a member of Fireweed Food Co-op, please visit our website. Providing professional executive mentorship and coaching services to support clients in gaining clarity, establishing strategic next steps, and successfully accomplishing their personal and career aspirations.
From Interview to Impact: My Journey with Hackney Foodbank Exciting news! I've just interviewed to become a volunteer mentor at Hackney Foodbank. Pending references, I'll soon be dedicating part of my time to this crucial cause. Here's why it matters: Foodbanks are lifelines: They provide essential support to those facing tough times. Mental health matters: I'm passionate about supporting the wellbeing of staff and volunteers who give so much. Personal connection: While I've never needed a foodbank, I've faced financial hardship. I understand the emotional toll it takes. A friend recently asked: "Who helps the helpers?" That question resonated deeply. Foodbank staff and volunteers often witness desperation, guilt, and shame. They work tirelessly to ensure no one falls through the cracks. How you can make a difference? Donate: Food, money, or time – every contribution counts. Spread awareness: Share this post to highlight the importance of foodbanks. Show compassion: Remember, anyone can face unexpected hardships. Let's support those who support others. Together, we can create a stronger, more compassionate community. Are you involved with a foodbank or similar organization? Share your experiences below! #FoodbankVolunteer #CommunitySupport #MentalHealthAwareness #NationalFoodBankDay

Today is California Association of Food Banks’ (CAFB) Capitol Action Day. This is an annual advocacy event brings state’s food bankers and clients together to demand an end to hunger. On the agenda is the CalFood Budget. CAFB is requesting to appropriate $60M General Fund for CalFood in 2025-2026 & ongoing to sustain current & ongoing demand at food banks. #CalFood funds: 🍊 Enable food banks to purchase CA-grown foods to meet their communities’ diverse needs. 💵 Are incredibly efficient: each $1 enables CA food banks to provide approximately five meals. 🧑🏾🌾 Provide a significant return on investment: even a 1% drop in hunger saves CA $600 million in prevented healthcare costs, as well as supporting our hard-hit farmers & food producers in our food economy. We need your continued support #CAleg Scott Wiener @asmJesseGabriel. Please fulfill our request for critical ongoing #CalFood funds, a lifeline for communities facing hunger! h/t Senator John Laird and Asm. BuffyWicks

As of the end of June, ISTC has wrapped up our involvement in the Illinois Farm to Food Bank Program. What started as a survey and focus groups with farmers has turned into a statewide program that has recovered millions of pounds of fresh food that would have otherwise gone uneaten. Traveling around the state visiting farms and learning about food waste from a new perspective was eye-opening and also REALLY fun! Never did I think I’d have the opportunity to address food waste and also travel to every tip of the state, meet some of the most generous people (farmers!), and try some of the most delicious foods. But seriously, if you haven’t tried a southern Illinois peach, you are missing out - might I suggest Rendleman and Flamm Orchards. We often think of Illinois as corn & soy (there’s definitely a lot of that), but there are also thousands of specialty crop farmers, and they need our support. Buy local, buy direct from farmers and support your local farmers market, and we all need to quit being so dang picky about choosing the “prettiest” apple at the grocery store. The more we can support and invest in local foods, the more we can reduce waste and reduce emissions from our food system. And for those that are able, please support your local food pantry, food bank, or other charitable feeding organizations with your dollars or your time. Access to healthy foods is something everyone deserves. Thank you so much Stephen Ericson and Feeding Illinois for the opportunity to be involved in this program. Thank you to Raghela Scavuzzo, Jane Maxwell, MS, RDN, and SO MANY others for your leadership, support, and knowledge! What's in a name? In our case AzFBN's evolution. The Arizona Food Bank Network, as we are known today and since 2019, has undergone a few name changes over the years as we adjusted to reflect the core of our work. One thing that has not changed is that food bank or food banks have always been a part of our name. In 1987, the Arizona Food Bank Association (AFBA), changed its name to Association of Arizona Food Banks or AAFB, a name the organization would keep for over three decades! #40yearsofazfbn
