Can you be a victim of your own success? Interesting article on how Actinium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. pivotal trial failed to impress the FDA in spite of meeting its primary endpoint. The FDA was focused on survival extension, a secondary endpoint, and in spite of a positive signal there as well, patients were clamoring to cross over from standard of care to Iomab-B because of the apparent efficacy confounded the survival analysis. Actinium will now have to run another trial that does not allow patient crossover. A type of statistical analysis to deal with this sort of problem has been identified by Josh Angrist and perhaps could be used to deconvolute this data.
