Best practice check: secondary public schools, multiple exterior doors. Multiple portable classrooms on different sides of the school. Class changes 6-8 times per day. School(s) have 1200 to 2000 students. Exterior door must be unlocked during class change (students moving to and from the classrooms in the portables). Door are equipped with electronic card swipe, programmed to automatically unlock during class change. Doors are locked all other times. Fencing in portables and walkways is not an option. Removing the portables is not an option. Thoughts on reducing vulnerability?

“I watched the weather for a week before school started, when I saw this heat wave coming. I was just filled with dread, because it's such a hard way to start school.” That’s Susan Eckert, a schoolteacher in Montclair, New Jersey. According to a recent State of Our Schools report, over 40% of U.S. public schools need new or updated HVAC systems. It’s clear: our schools need better infrastructure to keep students and staff safe and comfortable in a warming world. What’s the best way to do it? Electrifying. When it’s time to purchase a new A/C, choosing a heat pump instead is the way to go. A heat pump is more energy-efficient and cost-effective, and it can do the work of both a furnace and an A/C. It’s the all-around better choice, and it can play a key role in creating the healthier, more comfortable, climate-resilient spaces that children deserve. I strongly reccomend that our Public Health gurus AND the ministry AND the politicians, read this article, and then start reflecting on the air “cleansing and filtering” capacities of WHATEVER technologies they spent (hundreds of millions of our taxpayer dollars) on. Just ask yourselves a simple question : “Does the technology that YOU decided upon, actually have the capacity to remove from the air envelope, sufficient numbers (ie densities) of floating and lingering 🦠 pathogen 🦠 infused respiratory EXHALE droplets, BEFORE it/they is/are inhaled by unsuspecting classroom occupants, who are “sharing the air”? The answer is “likely not” PARTICULARLY if YOUR choice was underpowered SOLO HEPA units, strategically placed in the corner of the classrooms; with fans run on low speed, due to noise concerns. Enough of the public health theatre. Let’s get down to the “SCIENTIFIC” facts regarding the airborne transmission of COVID -19 pathogen infused particles. ENOUGH of the “political” science AND the public health, C-19 transmission abatement THEATRE. Your choice may have been as good as “putting a brick catcher” in the corner of the classroom. 🤔
