Hello, LinkedIn friends. It's me, Simone Adams Adams, Founder & Executive Director of Color My Outdoors. 👋🏾
I wanted to take a moment to introduce Color My Outdoors on this platform and connect with more of you.
Color My Outdoors is a 501c3 nonprofit on a mission to change the outdoor narrative to celebrate People of Color! We work to see more Black and Brown people in the outdoors—not just as participants but also as leaders in outdoor industry careers. We all know that #representationmatters. At Color My Outdoors, we believe an important part of representation is ensuring that the people working in the outdoor industry mirror the representation we wish to see among outdoor participants. 💯
To catalyze the change we wish to see... Color My Outdoors offers scholarships for wilderness medicine certification courses (WFA & WFR) to individuals wishing to start or get promoted on their outdoor career journey. This year, we will introduce a series of workshops and resources to help diverse-led organizations succeed in their business. And always, we are finding opportunities for storytelling to celebrate the people—past and present—who look like us and are leading the way in this industry. Watch as we develop a pipeline of talented, curious, and passionate people ready to work in the outdoor industry and change the narrative from the inside out! 💚
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! (in our best infomercial voice) Two things make our work unique: 1) We are not just recruiting young adults; we are focused on seasoned professionals who are ripe for a career change or part-time post-retirement careers. 2) Our work is currently focused in the southeast United States—those states in the Jim Crow South that opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which finally prohibited segregation in public places like state and local parks. While a national imprint is projected for our future, we are concentrating our initial efforts in the spaces most impacted by legal segregation, land acquisition, racial profiling, and other systemic injustices.
Well, that's a little bit about us. If you'd like to support this mission, take a moment to browse our website to learn more, subscribe to our newsletter to stay informed, or submit a partner request if you have ideas for ways we can work together. Don’t forget the name, Color My Outdoors!
