USA Basketball has named Glossier, Inc. as the first beauty brand to partner with USA Basketball Women’s National Team, celebrating the excellence of women in sports. Recently, we’ve seen #womenssports breaking records. Firsts. Wins, on and off the courts. 2023 was a big year for #womeninsport… and there are no signs of slowing down. In fact, women’s sports are projected to rake in over $1 billion in revenue in 2024, setting a new revenue record. The partnership is USA Basketball’s first beauty partnership in its 50-year history and its first women’s specific partnership in nearly three decades. Further proof that brands are meeting the moment for women athletes!

I have mixed feelings about this. I think it is a nice public relations coup for the company and presumably a financial boost for the women's basketball team . But I am concerned that it is unintentionally reinforcing the stereotype that women must improve their appearance.

This is awesome. So many companies have been taking similar initiatives like Milani Cosmetics, Urban Decay Cosmetics.. the change is real now and way more large scaled. It’s about time.

Love that women in sports are being celebrated. Great move by Glossier. Not convinced that promoting beauty feels like a step forward for the female athletes though 🤔
