March 31 is Transgender Day of Visibility. On that day, and all the days both before and after, showing up for trans people is crucial. Ally is a verb. If you're speaking but not acting, if your allyship is in name only, you may very well be doing more harm than good. These days, there is so much misinformation around gender-affirming care, especially as that care relates to trans youth. My trans son and I created an easy, straightforward digital resource to bust myths around gender-affirming care, and offer simple ways cisgender allies can help push back against the often harmful narratives that surround how trans people and gender-affirming care are talked about by the media, lawmakers and others. I invite you to have a look, get comfortable with the facts and truth around this care and trans youth, and then commit to speaking out. As a parent of a trans kid, I need you out here, overtly and clearly supporting my kid. For instance, a remarkable breakthrough is that our long-term work with our local member in Moldova, CRIC, has influenced the new law on children’s rights, which includes a specific article on CHRDs. We were also key in driving greater global attention and commitment to CHRDs and child participation among States and the UN. For people who want to get involved in activism on one of the major national or world problems such as the climate crisis or reproductive rights, what are having trouble identifying a form of activism project that is a good fit for them or their lifestyle, but would still make a difference. Great book!

At Protect Life Michigan, one of our conversational values is to always treat others with respect, even if they yell at us, spit on us, or try to break our things.  We know the topic of abortion can bring up a lot of emotions, and we want to listen and have 1:1, respectful conversations with people. Sometimes people who see us on the street — doing pro-life outreach — feel upset when asked about their views on abortion. However, once we start talking with them, they often tell us how thankful they are to have had such a productive conversation on a crucial topic. Yelling and being rude will get us nowhere. Part of our advocacy for human rights includes valuing the humanity of those we talk to on the street.

If you think your work impacts children and families — it does. 💕 If you think you're an advocate for children — you are. 💕 At Forthright, we work exclusively with organizations that love kids, which is an intentionally inclusive definition. Our clients understand systems change. They know just how interconnected their work is. For example, they know we can’t focus on addressing unfair suspensions and expulsions without looking at generational trauma, poverty and systems such as foster care. That's why we work with organizations that span the support spectrum, from legal aid to healthcare. ▶ Housing? Definitely an issue that impacts children and families. ▶ Mental health? Interesting perspective from JD Vance, as reported by Axios: a "zero shame policy" that states, "Never back down, never admit fault and never apologize." It's worth noting that these statements can be applied by those on various sides of important issues. For me I think of reproductive rights...supporters of Roe v. Wade may consider adopting a similar stance of unwavering advocacy. To those continuing to fight for reproductive freedom: your persistence and dedication are vital. Stand firm in your convictions and continue to make your voices heard.
