Indigenous members of LGBTQ+ community experience markedly high rates of anxiety (77%) and depression (65%) as young adults, according to The Trevor Project. Informed, inclusive and affirming care is one of the best tools we have to help. When you feel seen and safe, it is easier to practice trust and vulnerability with a provider. But finding that level of care isn't always easy. Our goal is to change that. For the LGBTQ+ community, social determinants of health play a major role in health outcomes. 1.5 million people a year experience homelessness, and for members of the LGBTQ+ community, the statistics are much worse. It is more important than ever to check in with friends and let them know that you are there for them. Election cycles are extra challenging for the LGBTQIA2S+ community, the toxic energy that politicians put out is harmful, so let's check in with each other and tell them that we care about them. Be willing to listen and let your friends share openly without judgment. May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. How are you celebrating our AAPI neighbors, family members, colleagues and community members this month (and all year)?
