𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: 🚀 3.3 billion basketball fans globally 📈 Interest in basketball has surged from 68% to 74% since 2019. 👶 80% of 16-29 year olds are fans, with significant growth in countries like Indonesia, Philippines, China, UAE, Spain, Germany, and Great Britain. The FIBA Basketball World Cup, which was held in 2023 for the first time across three countries in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan, has seen an 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵 of 33% over the last four-year period. In my opinion piece for Singapore's Lian He Zao Bao, I explored the reasons why Malaysia has yet to secure a gold medal in the Olympics, despite having world top 10 players in men's singles, men's doubles, and mixed doubles badminton. It’s undeniable that Malaysia has a systematic and well-structured training and reward scheme, one that many other countries lack. Badminton, introduced to Malaya by the British in 1809, has since become popular across Malaysia’s multiracial society, producing a wealth of talented players and giving Malaysia a strong pool to select from. However, the sport has faced setbacks due to bureaucracy, outdated methods, and a lack of mental training, particularly within the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), the primary badminton sports management institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. These issues have contributed to the decline in Malaysia's badminton performance. Therefore, the sports entity must take responsibility for Malaysia's underwhelming performance in recent Olympics.

Malaysia Paralympic Council (MPC) president, Datuk Seri Megat D. Shahriman Zaharudin has called on local corporate sponsors to support national sports associations (NSAs) based on their performances and not solely on their fanbases. Speaking to Scoop, Megat said that corporations should practice meritocracy, KPIs and think twice before funding NSAs that fail to bring any results with their funds. “It’s time for all local corporations to stop funding NSAs that don’t produce any results to shift their focus on associations that bring pride for the nation. “In terms of results and bringing pride for the nation, MPC has always been consistent as we always deliver medals and our athletes always qualify to participate in the Paralympics, unlike certain NSAs like the Malaysia Hockey Confederation (MHC) who have once again failed to qualify for the Olympics. #corporatecommunications #corporatesponsorship #corporatemarketing #business Read more 👇

AND TODAYS SPORTING CHEAT IS.......Rodgers Kwemoi KENYA Track and field’s Athletics Integrity Unit said Kwemoi was stripped of seven years of results through August 2023 for a “deliberate, systematic, and sophisticated doping regime.” He lost his seventh-place finish at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, fourth place at the 2019 worlds in Qatar and his bronze medal result from the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Kwemoi also was stripped of the world junior title he won as a teenager in 2016 in a championship record time. The ban will expire in August 2029 when Kwemoi will be aged 31. As I continue my research for my upcoming book TRACK AND PILLS - a deep dive into todays world of sports doping, here are some of the questions I have been asked over the past week alone, * Do these athletes sponsors know that they are cheating? * Do these athletes Parents know that they are cheating? * Do these athletes National Federations know that they are cheating? * Do spectators even care anymore if an athlete is doping or not? * Do some sports protect those who have been involved in cheating in the past? * How many athletes at Paris 2024 are likely to be doped? * You will never stop doping in sport, why try? I am working hard to find the facts on all of the above, and so much more that is going on in the world of sports. Good morning, Malaysia!! It’s our Merdeka month, and did you watch the badminton match yesterday? We’re smashing through the Olympics with 2 bronze medals!🥉 Congrats to our badminton athletes, Aaron Chia, Soh Woo Yik and Lee Zi Jia who made us beam with pride. I wasn’t an avid sports watcher, but it is so heartwarming to see the entire country becoming one team, supporting, pouring hope and prayers into our badminton athletes in their games! My friends and I ended up having a blast last night as we came across the live stream on YouTube. Haha, it’s so funny that all of us girls were holding each other in excitement and nerves. 😅 This reminds me that just like in badminton, success hinges on a few key principles, highlighting the importance of TEAM: 🏸 Teamwork: Whether it’s doubles or singles, the synergy between players is everything as each move is coordinated and strategized. Similarly, in our work teams, collaboration and cooperation drive us toward our shared goals. 🏸Trust: For doubles, trusting their partners implicitly is a must. At work, trust in your team ensures that tasks are completed efficiently and that everyone can rely on each other’s strengths. 🏸 Support: Athletes have their coaches, trainers, teammates, and supporters who help them through every match. Having a positive and supportive environment in the workplace boosts morale and helps us overcome challenges. Don’t underestimate the power of encouragement—a pat on the back or a kind word can make all the difference! Again, a heartfelt congratulations and thank you to our athletes, aka the heroes!
