📃 New report report explores how the political economic dynamics of both international and domestic food markets affect food security in fragile states. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has been accompanied by unprecedented rises in the price of wheat on international wheat markets, yet little attention has been paid to how rising food prices depend on political economic dynamics that are more complex than supply and demand factors, Jos Meester, Guido Lanfranchi and 𝗔𝗺𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗮 say in their report. International food market regulation should refocus on reliable and affordable food provision, is one of their recommendations. 🔵 Read full report: https://lnkd.in/ejBPrcEe

The Supreme Court has requested responses from the government, DGFT, and National Cooperative Exports Ltd on Rika Global Impex Ltd.'s plea challenging the bans on non-basmati white rice exports. Rika argues that the notifications, including one from September allowing export only through National Cooperative Exports Ltd., violate the Foreign Trade Policy and public interest. The company, with significant stock procured before the bans, seeks annulment of the notifications and permission to export its rice. The case raises concerns about proportionality and fairness in trade policy. #SupremeCourt #Goverment #DGFT #NationalCooperativeExportsLtd #NonBasmatiRice #Export

It's time for Congress to renew AGOA and introduce new enforcement measures to protect our pork producers and help expand global market access. NPPC's Maria C. Zieba spoke with Farm Journal's PORK to discuss how South Africa and Nigeria are using unwarranted trade barriers: "They get access to the U.S., but need to provide reciprocal access for our products... Better enforcement in AGOA is key for USTR to hold countries accountable and open markets for U.S. pork." See the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dwVGt9ds

📢 EU Introduces Tariff Quota on Ukrainian Honey Starting August 21, 2024, the EU will implement a tariff rate quota on honey imports from Ukraine under the Deep & Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) until June 5, 2025. 🐝🍯 I love seeing Ukrainian honey on the shelves in EU shops! It's fantastic to see the EU supporting Ukrainian farmers and even the bees 🐝. With Ukrainian farmers' ongoing challenges, they can't be compared to producers in other regions. 🔹 New quota of 18,507.32 tonnes set for January 1, 2025, to June 5, 2025. 🔹 Average honey imports from Ukraine over the last five years: ~49,000 tonnes. I'm glad these numbers remain steady, but I hope they will grow. Both sides should keep the dialogue going to support fair trade and market stability. 🌍🤝 https://lnkd.in/eTHj4jWE. #EUTrade #UkrainianHoney #SupportFarmers #TradePolicy #MarketRegulation

The primary palm oil fractions exported from Malaysia to China were refined bleached deodorised (RBD) palm olein and RBD palm stearin, constituting 50 per cent and 38 per cent of palm oil exports last year. RBD palm olein is primarily used in China for frying instant noodles, as cooking oil in food processing and catering and in food manufacturing, while RBD palm stearin serves as a feedstock for producing various oleochemicals. Meanwhile, Belvinder noted that palm kernel cake has gained popularity in China as an alternative feedstock for animal feed production, reducing reliance on imported soybean meal. https://lnkd.in/g9uc9nbU
