We are delighted to announce that Seatrium is taking another important stride towards its commitment to advance environmental #sustainability through the development of industry-leading solutions and the execution of sustainable projects. We have secured the world's first full-scale, turnkey Carbon Capture and Storage (#CCS) retrofit from Solvang ASA, Norway, our long-term favoured customer contract (FCC) partner. The full-scale retrofit of a 7MW Wärtsilä Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) system will be carried out on Solvang’s 21,289 cubic metre ethylene carrier, Clipper Eris. The project will use amine cleaning technology to capture 70% of the carbon dioxide (CO2) in the exhaust gas from the main engine, involving the entire value chain for handling CO2, including liquefaction and storage onboard the vessel. Seatrium's scope of work in this #game-changing project includes basic design, detailed engineering, procurement, upgrading of electrical and automation systems, as well as the integration of a carbon capture and compression/storage system. Our focus on maritime #decarbonisation has allowed us to develop a range of low carbon and cleaner energy solutions for the #maritime industry. Right now, Lindabs production facility in Haderslev, Denmark, is producing no less than 250 pieces of large ducts for the wind turbine manufacturer Siemens. They are to be installed in paint booths at one of their UK locations. How large you might wonder? We are talking about 240 x 240 cm ducts, big enough to easily fit five full-grown Lindab employees inside. Building such large ducts is difficult work which requires 2-3 employees per channel, or else it gets too hard on both necks and arms. Pioneering pilot trials at H2Hives outside Oskarshamn in Sweden. H2Hive has developed and patented a technology for storing hydrogen under high pressure in bedrock. The methods are based on boreholes in the ground, which are lined on the inside with, for example, an austenitic stainless pipe. The rock absorbs the pressure from the gas, and the pipe seals it.   For the first time, the storage has been pressure-tested to 1000 bar at Äspö outside Oskarshamn. Swerim was naturally on site!   "It is an interesting technology that may have the potential to be an alternative to both above-ground storage and large-scale underground storage," says Pontus Rydgren, senior researcher at Swerim. “From a materials technology perspective, it could be advantageous to use pre-made tubes. This minimizes the need for welding, which may be beneficial as welded joint may be an issue, especially in contact with hydrogen due to the risk of hydrogen embrittlement. It will be exciting to follow the pilot trials here at Äspö and the development of H2Hive.”   H2Hive and Swerim have now applied for funding from Impact Innovation to study the impact of hydrogen on the material and make the storage concept as reliable as possible.   "For us as a small innovation company, a collaboration with Swerim as a research actor would be valuable," explains Mikael Gustafsson, energy expert and one of the founders of H2Hive. “And external funding would open up opportunities for research and development that we would not otherwise be able to undertake”. #research #hydrogen #storinghydrogen

The strategic objective of the H-Acero project lead by Sarralle is to contribute to the decarbonization of the steel sector, using hydrogen as an alternative energy source at various points in the steel production process. To achieve this, the committee formed by Technologists, Steelmakers, and R&D Centers has develop advanced technologies and new materials, compatible with the production processes of the steel industry, with the aim of achieving a sustainable steel production based on hydrogen (H2). [H-ACERO POWERING GREEN STEEL]   📅 May 13th INSERTEC was present at the last meeting of the H-ACERO project at the SARRALLE facilities in Azpeitia. It was the closing day of the project in which the results of all the tests carried out over the last 3 years were reviewed.   This project is led by SARRALLE - Industrial Engineering Leader and is made up of ACERALAVA , ArcelorMittal, Calcinor, Ceit Centro Tecnológico, INSERTEC Furnaces & Refractories, Nervacero, Nippon Gases, Sidenor Aceros Especiales, TECNALIA Research & Innovation, Tubos Reunidos Group and SIDEREX - Cluster Association of the Steel Industry.   H-ACERO is a strategic project whose objective is to contribute to the decarbonisation of the steel industry, using hydrogen as an alternative energy source at various points in the steel production process.   This project is financed by the Basque Government, within the framework of the HAZITEK aid programme for the support of Industrial Research Projects and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).   The project will be closed and disseminated on 28 May at the SIDEREX facilities.
