Amazing candidate just moved home to take care of family? → Not a problem. Talented prospect whose schedule needs to accommodate school pickups for kids? → Let’s go for it. Brilliant hire who can’t quite afford NYC living costs yet? → We’ll get you there. Finding the right talent means staying flexible. Sure: ↪ Our hiring process is more involved ↪ We have to navigate more unique circumstances ↪ It takes effort to make sure we’re on the same page when we’re not all together But we want to create a culture of transparency, collaboration, and performance. Which means we need: - Authenticity - Diverse perspectives - People in it for the long haul When we find the perfect fit – We’re not going to say “no” just based on your zip code. Hiring people that will automatically fit into your company's culture, making a cohesive team, sounds good in theory. But the problem with hiring for culture fit is that you end up hiring the same “type” of person again and again. If you want your business to extend into new areas or markets, it’s going to take new and novel perspectives to get there. I had a crazy schedule past few days. Hiring employees is one of the toughest thing to do. Hiring isn’t just about filling roles—it’s about finding the heartbeat of your business. From my past three hiring processes, I learned that the right hire goes beyond qualifications. It’s the values that create magic. A bad hire might hurt your company in the long run. A hire that's not fit for your company culture can contaminate the whole environment. In our last round of hiring, we focused on more than just resumes—we looked for people who lived our values. Honesty, Accountability, joyfulness, and an entrepreneurial spirit. So here’s my biggest takeaway when hiring: Look for alignment, not just skill. One rotten apple can contaminate all the apples in the basket. The right person will grow your company from the inside out, bringing fresh ideas, energy, and collaboration. That’s the secret sauce to long-term success. ✨ Lesson learned: Hire for values, train for skills. Are you sure you aren't hiring a bad apple?
