We are often asked by candidates and clients about how busy we are. The size of our business and position across private equity means our activity can act as a litmus test for the broader market. Perhaps contrary to expectations, the summer months have always been exceptionally strong for us across PE portfolio hiring. We have always remained busy during the perceived market ‘quiet time’ to serve the huge number of clients who continue to push on with their hiring agendas. June and July were both record months for our business whilst August came in an at incredible 35%+ YoY. The vast majority of this success has come from mid-cycle hires, swap-outs and team augmentation, giving us every expectation that we’re about to see a significant uplift in recruitment as PE turns to driving more deals. Confidence in the UK M&A market has certainly started to head in the right direction as we move into Q4. Dealmakers are regaining momentum, driven by a stabilising economic outlook and increasing appetite (or pressure) to deploy capital. Despite political uncertainty and the looming UK budget, investors are gearing up to take advantage of what looks to be a relatively favourable market for growth. Our 2024 Remuneration and Outlook Report of M&A professionals across the UK and Europe, published in the next few days, shows 73% of those surveyed are expecting deal volume to be higher or the same as last year. Overall, optimism in the PE SME market is seemingly quite strong. We continue to be busy. Our team is working on numerous mandates in the UK and European markets across a wide range of sectors and disciplines.
