In today's world, there is a heightened focus on #diversity and #inclusion. However, some individuals have easier access to these values than others. Why is that? Various factors #influence how people engage with diversity. Personal experiences and exposure to diverse environments play a crucial role. Individuals who have grown up in diverse environments often demonstrate a deeper understanding and greater acceptance of diversity. They have learned to appreciate different perspectives and often cultivate #relationships with people from various backgrounds. In contrast, individuals raised in more homogeneous environments may struggle to feel comfortable in diverse settings or to overcome prejudices. This could stem from a need for more #education about different cultures, identities, and lifestyles or from fear of the unknown. True inclusion requires more than #tolerance. It means actively creating an environment where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued. This demands a deep understanding of the needs and challenges of different groups and ongoing efforts to break down barriers and promote #equality of opportunity. To truly be inclusive, we must recognize and overcome our own biases, be open to new perspectives, and actively listen when people talk about their experiences. Ultimately, #openness is the key to promoting diversity and inclusion. I advocate for these #values every day and am grateful for the supportive environment with an appreciative and open culture at Arvato Systems. Unconscious bias is like a navigational compass – subtly guiding our decisions and interactions without our conscious awareness. However, like a compass needle that can be recalibrated, with awareness and intentional effort, we can realign our biases toward a more inclusive direction. It was a privilege to engage with Carrier Midea employees and facilitate an insightful session exploring the intricacies of diversity, unconscious biases, and the underlying factors of social conditioning. Led by our Founder & CEO, Sonica Aron (She/Her/Hers), participants embarked on a journey of self-discovery, unraveling the intricacies of bias and its profound impact on inclusivity. Real-life anecdotes illuminated the discussion, compelling individuals to confront assumptions and challenge stereotypes. “It takes two to tango” they say, likewise, Diversity or Diverse people, Diverse thinking, Diverse mindset etc cannot flourish in a environment where people/eco-system aren’t #inclusive to these diversity dimensions. #Inclusion” to me is a "prima-facie" " table stakes" position one needs to envisage before taking a plunge on any form of Diversity decisions. Lalchand Choudhary happily shares his positive experience where he felt valued and included within the organization. He highlights the crucial role of leadership in fostering an inclusive culture. In the beginning, his team leader conducted a meeting recognizing each member's expertise and contributions. This acknowledgment made Lalchand feel like a vital part of the team, where his contributions were valued for collective growth. The workspace environment, along with support from seniors and colleagues, motivated Lalchand to give his best. He credits his team members for creating an inclusive workspace, emphasizing mutual respect and learning from each other's skills. Despite facing challenges, such as organizing documents, the team tackled them together. Lalchand takes pride in successfully reconciling branch-wise document status, promptly flagging missing or incorrect ones and collaborating with seniors to find solutions. Lalchand's proactive approach in contributing to the mission of "Transforming Lives" symbolizes the organization's commitment to diversity and inclusivity. She provided valuable insights into the essential strategies for #fosteringinclusion in our ever-evolving multicultural landscape. ✨ Despite the numerous benefits diversity brings, misunderstandings can arise, particularly concerning #genderinclusion. With the increasing emphasis on diversity and inclusion, it's important to note that some managers may not fully grasp its potential as a catalyst for business growth. Men are often heard saying "HR is pushing a diversity candidate in my team," while women express concerns like, "Decisions are to be made during the cigarette breaks out over drinks. I come to know of it much later." During the session with Acer, several participants made a resolute commitment to actively promote inclusion. A senior leader received a commendation for her statement: "I acknowledge that I may have #unconsciousbiases. I encourage each of you to provide feedback to help me address them."
