As a newly appointed member of the board of directors of the Pan-African Payment & Settlement System - PAPSS an initiative endorsed by African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and embraced in 2019 by the African Union Heads of States as a pivotal tool for cross-border payments in Africa in support of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat implementation, I ponder the audacious question: Can we dare to dream the European dream for our motherland ? Shaped by a European upbringing, immersed in multiple cultures, and enriched by educational and professional experiences, I have been a firsthand witness to transformative milestones such as the Maastricht Treaty on European Union in 1993 and the establishment of the European Central Bank in 1998. These experiences have underscored the formidable impact of unified systems, particularly evident during the monumental shift to the Euro. The imperative for widespread digital acceleration is central to Africa's economic empowerment. It requires a focus on policy, governance, investment, innovation, compliance and collaboration among technology, financial, and business entities on the continent. Although the potential is evident, the market poses risks, conversion complexities, and sustainability challenges. In this Non Executive Director capacity, I am committed to supporting PAPSS visionary founders and leaders, contributing to lasting change, and with a global perspective, positively impacting future generations in our homeland. Appreciate the well-wishes and words of encouragement. Remain blessed. #Afreximbank #AfCFTA #ZLECAf #AfricanUnion #UnionAfricaine #BorderlessAfrica #ConnectingPayments #CrossBorderPayments #IntraAfricanTrade #Paiement #Payment #Africa #Afrique

[#DEAL] Fuelled by expectations that the main #centralbanks will start easing their monetary policies, the #SSA sector enjoyed its strongest start ever with close to 130 bn of new issuance in the first 3 weeks of 2024. This has been in particular led by Eurozone sovereigns who brought record breaking transactions (Kingdom of Spain 15 bn, 10-year SPGB, Republic of Italy 15 bn in a dual tranche, 7 and 30 year BTP, Republic of France 8 bn, 25-year Green OAT, Kingdom of Belgium 7 bn, 10-year OLO, Republic of Portugal 4 bn, 10-year OT) on the back of massive order books amounting to EUR 485 bn for these 5 deals.

In 2018, Canada committed to contributing its fair share towards TB R&D, but has fallen short every year since. The financial need for TB R&D has since more than doubled. We need bolder commitments from 🇨🇦 to #EndTB. We need Canada to #InvestInTB. #YesWeCanEndTB

Nine ways Africa will benefit from the establishment of African Union Financial Institutions. The Constitutive Act of the AU mandates the creation of 3 key financial institutions namely the African Central Bank (ACB), the African Monetary Fund (AMF), and the African Investment Bank (AIB). The establishment of the African Financial Institutions is a flagship program of Agenda 2063 and these institutions are seen as key in accelerating the continent’s regional integration and socio-economic development as they will play a focal role in the mobilization of resources and management of the financial sector. The role of these institutions is to implement the economic integration called for in the 1991 Treaty Establishing the African Economic Community (Abuja Treaty). #AUFI #AUFinancialInstitutions #Agenda2063.

Great get together organised by AFBS Association of Foreign Banks in Switzerland 🧀💫👏🏻 A key take away for me: banks are too Swiss and too cautious / strict on the financial market. We need to better market our environnement 🚀 We see many opportunities for foreign banks in our stable and neutral country 🇨🇭! The upcoming election for the African Development Bank's (AfDB) president holds significant implications for the institution's future direction. As incumbent Akinwumi Adesina's term ends, a diverse range of candidates, including Abbas Mahamat Tolli, Rabah Arezki, and Hassatou Diop N'Sele, are vying for the position. Each candidate brings unique perspectives and experiences, shaping the bank's priorities and approaches to African economic development. The election outcome will influence the AfDB's stance on critical issues like climate change, economic integration, and sustainable growth. A transparent and merit-based selection process is crucial to ensure the bank's continued effectiveness in attempting to contribute to Africa's economic progress. #AfDB #AfricanEconomicDevelopment #LeadershipMatters #SustainableGrowth #ClimateAction #EconomicIntegration https://lnkd.in/ezFZ-TrU
