It’s amazing how bringing in the right person at the right time can drive immediate and broad positive impact on an organization (and our community). 🙌🏻 Sarah Golman In talking with a community stakeholder this week, he shared his goal of creating lifelong employment opportunities for A+ talent in the Dallas Jewish nonprofit community. Nonprofit work is rooted in the “soft stuff” like heart, mission alignment, and compassion. Taking this role after a 15 year career in financial services, I thought I was already prepared for the “tough stuff” but I have never worked with a team so open to big change, focused on driving positive results for our stakeholders, and relentless about collaborating across the community to bring deep impact and support for those who need it most. Yes, it takes a big heart to bring your A+ game to this sector - but it requires grit, intellect, and determination, too. To attract and retain top talent, it demands investment. If you’re a donor or a board member of a nonprofit organization, consider endowing resources to fund the costliest roles in the agency you love. Similar to endowing a chair at a university, this creates operational flexibility and ensures that the organization can attract A+ talent no matter what’s going on in the market and environment around you. Monterey County Black Caucus (MCBC), a grantee partner of Irvine's #PriorityCommunities initiative, works to anchor Black leadership and power-building to address structural racism and economic inequities. They also provide healing spaces that allow Black residents to unpack, reflect, learn, and share what the needs are in the community.  How can #philanthropy better support MCBC’s work and the Black community? MCBC’s Rosalyn Green says, “They should continue providing funding, understanding the needs of the communities, and recognizing that one-time funding is not a cure-all. It’s important that funders dive deep into the proposals, listen to stories beyond those proposals, and take the time to come out and connect with the organizations and communities they support to see how funds are being used. What examples can you share of the best mission statements for nonprofit arts organizations (they should effectively communicate not only the work they do, but the impact they have on the communities and people they serve)?

The Village (noun): An intentionally curated space supporting Black leaders and resourcing nonprofits primarily impacting Black community members. Happy 2024!!!
