🐾 This past weekend, a group of FirstBankers volunteered at Pepper's Senior Dog Sanctuary in Roxborough. 🐶 They cleaned crates, installed privacy fencing for the pups, and washed down their “bedrooms.” They also made snuffle mats and donated treats to help make their stay sweeter. Of course, they couldn’t resist giving the senior dogs some well-deserved love. 💕 We proudly support Pepper’s and hope these wonderful dogs feel at home. 🏡

April is National Volunteer Month, giving you the perfect opportunity to do good in the world whether you have an hour or an afternoon to spend helping others. Here are some fun ways to lend a hand and make an impact on your community: *Park Clean Up - Grab some bags and invite your pals to spend a few hours on trash duty at your favorite green space. *Donate Books - If you have books, magazines or other reading materials collecting dust, put them to good use and donate to a local school or library. *Meals on Wheels - Find a local organization that delivers meals to those in need and see how you can help. Additionally, if you have a friend or neighbor who needs access to food, contact the organization and assist with the paperwork. *Letter Writing – Show members of the military your appreciation with a handwritten letter thanking them for their service and sacrifice. Write a service member you know personally or check out an organization like Operation Gratitude. Include drawings from the youngest members of the family! *Animal Shelter - Help your local animal shelter by donating bags of food, walking animals or taking a dog or cat home for the weekend to give them a break from shelter life. #NationalVolunteerMonth #HelpingOthers #LendAHand

Did you know that if you have a pacemaker, you can include it in your Will to be donated to a Dog or Cat in need after you pass away? Although pacemakers cannot be used for another human, they can help Dogs with heart problems and potentially save their lives. You can arrange for the pacemaker to be sent to a vet of your choice. Many pacemakers are simply thrown away, and Dogs may die because people do not know about this option. Donating the pacemaker can even save the Dog’s owner the cost of a new one, which can sometimes make a crucial difference in affording life-saving treatment Dogs Of LinkedIn, Dogs Trust, Dogs 4 Rescue, Cats Protection please share #pacemakerdonation #pethealth #secondchances

First of all, I am a dog lover. we have a Yorkie named Scooter We have a cat named Ambush, that took up with us when he was dumped. The somewhat staged ads that the ASPCA runs are very expensive and really tug at your heart. That's the point. So I did a little research on them and was appalled to find out that about 42 cents of every dollar goes to Executive salaries, administrative costs, and ads. The CEO makes over A million dollars annually and other executives are over $200K annually. Even the basic caregivers make more than many teachers and policemen. These figures are in the public domain and if they are inaccurate, please make corrections This is way out of line from most charitable organizations which are closer to 20 cents out of each dollar or less. Tunnels to towers only spends about 5 cents on the dollar on salaries and administration. Meanwhile, most local animal shelters are underfunded and not supported by the ASPCA My point is this. Adopt your pets from local animal shelters and donate there. Many employees or volunteers are barely compensated for their time and serve out of the goodness of their hearts.

Can you imagine having to choose between a home and your beloved pet? This is the heartbreaking reality for many Canadians. Over 60% of households in Canada have cats or dogs, and more than 70% see them as family members. Sadly, the shortage of pet-friendly housing in our country is a major problem, making many families choose between a home and keeping their companion animals. Many shelters are at capacity, dealing with an influx of surrenders from families facing this reality. From August to September 10, our goal is to raise $10,000 through our Tails of Summer Challenge. By donating today, you’re helping us to continue to work with policymakers, raise public awareness, and support pet owners facing housing challenges. Every dollar raised in support of our work brings us closer to a Canada where no one has to choose between their home and their companion animal family members. Give today to make a difference https://lnkd.in/gn5VEQhX

URGENT - On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, Parachutes for Pets was activated as emergency support for those fleeing the Fort McMurray wildfires with pets. Although most evacuees were headed to the Edmonton area, nonprofits are struggling across Alberta and the pet resources are extremely limited. Within 24 hours Parachutes for Pets had sent multiple loads of pet supplies, and emergency pet packs to Fort Saskatchewan, Edmonton, and Lac La Biche. They had also arranged for over 40 pets in the Edmonton area to have safekeeping and six to receive vet care for wildfire related medical concerns. Their team has also seen 8 pets arrive to Calgary with their families. They currently have 4 of them in their safekeeping program, and the rest have popped into Parachutes to get the essential supplies they had to leave behind. At a time when their regular need for services has increased, and the prediction of a long, dry summer ahead - they need to humbly ask for support to ensure our efforts can continue. Can you help? Call their team at 368-999-6460 1. Follow them on social media 2. Volunteer - to safekeep evacuated pets, pick up and deliver donations, etc. 3. Donate pet supplies - thanks to our partners at Doodle Dogs 4. Financial Donations (instant tax receipts delivered to your inbox) - enable us to address urgent needs in the moment https://lnkd.in/gGwnCA5w
