Happy #PeopleBehindThePower day! Meet Siraj, who is a manager on our Energy Efficiency team and has been with FirstEnergy for 30 years! Part of Siraj's role enables him to interact with customers as he helps in furthering our energy efficient goals. But that's not all Siraj is interested in.
"I am a great fan of J.R.R. Tolkien fantasy works – The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. I am very familiar with characters and places of the Middle Earth and we go to Canada almost every year for vacation."
I love being human. Today I got on meeting and learned I was being furloughed...Wait what? Did I hear you right? Yes. Breath 1-2-3. Ok, tell me the details. OK... Now time to find the next company that I can help sell more solar and storage, providing value to them and their customers.
Yes, I will be without a paycheck for a while. No problem. Fortunately, I have built skills and a network that are both amazing. I have all the tools I need, to find the next company I can bring value to. I have Electricity, Internet and a Phone, check, check, check.
Unfortunately, 7 million people in Haiti do not have electricity and the Internet. So me losing my job, that can be replaced, not such a big deal. But for those living day in and day out without electricity (and the internet)....it's a major deal.
As I said, I absolutely love being human. It allows me to continuously face challenges and grow personally. Helping others has taught me to not take my perceived problems to serious, knowing that I can still make a difference for people who do not have the same opportunities as me.
With that said:
1. If you know a company in the renewable energy space that could benefit from my sales/sales management skillset please make an intro.

It would be awesome if there was international collaboration to tie grids together regionally and across long distances. I think subsea cables connecting a UHVDC circle around the Gulf of Mexico and along both East and West Coast could deliver offshore floating wind and solar power together with onshore microgrids. Marine hubs for carbon neutral fuel with green hydrogen and carbon removal chemical manufacturing.
Of course rooftop and every other type of solar/clean tech development makes sense to accelerate as fast as possible, it's just that I like to think looking a little further into the future with international transmission lines can help us plan and execute very big solutions faster with international collaboration.
Before me stands not just a group of colleagues but a family of men and women who have weathered the storms of the past four years together. We've shared moments of laughter that echoed through the toughest of days, and yes, there were times when we lost our tempers, but we always found our way back to unity.
Through it all, we've come to understand that our connection is more than just professional; it's personal. We've broken bread together, celebrating victories and finding solace in the face of challenges. These experiences have forged bonds that will extend far beyond our time at Tug Hill.
As I look at this photo, I'm reminded of the countless hours, the camaraderie, and the unwavering support we've offered one another. I can't help but reflect on how blessed I am to have had the opportunity to work with such a remarkable group of individuals. These men aren't just colleagues; they're my brothers.
Our journey together may have reached this milestone, but our friendships are everlasting. I'm grateful for each one of you and the immeasurable impact you've had on my life. Here's to the memories we've created and the adventures that lie ahead. 📸

Have you guys seen the 16 GW renewable energy development being built in China? It's part of a portfolio of projects that is planned to generate more than 400 GWs when finished. For context, that's equivalent to the consumption of the entire country of India. 🤯
Energization (Chakra Practice) is the best manner to bring out positive attributes viz alertness, creativity, generosity, compassion and quest for knowledge.
🗓 On June 18, 2024, the UWEA, in collaboration with its partners National Renewable Energy Laboratory and USAID, officially presented Ukraine's #wind and #solar potential data, now publicly accessible on the RE Data Explorer platform. This user-friendly web tool for geospatial analysis and visualization of renewable energy potential can be configured for various scenarios.
Knowing the actual wind and solar potential of each Ukrainian region can ensure a realistic and well-founded energy transition strategy, balanced and efficient placement of renewable energy facilities across the country, and assist developers in selecting the most strategically attractive sites for project implementation. Moreover, providing investors with real data on the country's wind and solar potential as well as on possible clean energy output in specific regions helps them to form realistic expectations for future assets.
💬 Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the UWEA Board, opened the event with a brief presentation on the current status of the wind energy market, its development dynamics, and further prospects for expanding wind energy capacities in Ukraine. “The RE Data Explorer platform contains unique wind potential data at a height of 120 meters, provided by actual market players, namely wind energy project developers. This makes the data quite accurate and very useful when selecting a site for future wind farms. I want to thank our partners, NREL and USAID, for their work in developing this valuable web tool and for their attention to Ukraine's wind and solar potential,” expressed Mr. Konechenkov.
💬 Anastasia Sakharova, Project manager at NREL, presented the theoretical foundations and tools of the RE Data Explorer platform and demonstrated how to use the platform. Ms. Sakharova: “The wind resource data in Ukraine cover the period from 2000 to 2023, presented at a spatial resolution of 2 km and a time interval of 5 minutes. In addition to wind speed and direction, the platform also provides hourly data on temperature, pressure, and relative humidity. Wind resource data are available at heights from 10 to 200 meters above ground level.” Additionally, Ms. Sakharova reported that the platform, apart from wind and solar potential data in Ukraine, also offers data on the location of rivers 🌊 and lakes, protected areas 🛑 , roads 🛣 , and railways 🛤 .
💬 Ilya Chernyakhovskiy, Researcher and Group manager at NREL, supplemented Ms. Sakharova's presentation by outlining the development milestones where data from the RE Data Explorer can be used, such as project performance analysis and financial analysis, microgrid design, land use assessment and geospatial analysis, energy system modeling, and overall equilibrium analysis.

Esperance (WA) is the first town in Australia to move entirely away from piped gas.
🤔 So, how did they do it?
Hear from the people and organisations involved in the transition about the challenges and lessons learned in the process.

This week, we hosted a webinar discussing energy management models for local authorities.
We kicked off with warm greetings from Adi Dishon, Director of the Weitz Center, and Maya Crabtree, Director of the Environment and Planning Department at the 15th Forum. Following that, Guy Deknuydt, Head of the Local Authorities Division in the Sustainable Energy Division at the Israel Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure - משרד האנרגיה והתשתיות, shared the ministry's vision and road map for local authorities.
Next, Irit Golan Engelko, an energy consultant at the Weitz Center, presented various models for energy management in municipalities. Hillel Shahar from the Eden Company enlightened us about the Jerusalem Municipality's approach to energy management. Itzik Krispel, Director of the Economic Development Department in Ofakim Municipality, provided insights into establishing an energy corporation with the private sector.
Lastly, Dorit Davidovich Banet, a regional and sustainable energy consultant and former CEO of Eilat-Eilot, wrapped up the webinar with a glimpse of innovation in economic models. It was truly fascinating! Huge thanks to all our partners and speakers for their valuable contributions!
It's clear to all that local authorities are emerging as key players in Israel's energy landscape.
Don't miss out on staying informed and learn more about this important topic today!
