Logan Regional Medical Center, located in Logan, West Virginia, is crucial to keeping residents in this small community healthy from the moment they are born. At a time when maternal care is disappearing in rural areas, it has three labor suites and a nine-bed nursery. LRMC, along with other rural hospitals across the country, is a cornerstone of the community it serves. Faced with unique challenges, however, these hospitals are dwindling in number -- and proposals by some in Congress threaten to lower their numbers even more. In my work for Coastal Creatives, I've heard many stories of genuine life transformations that happened just from an initial moment of getting involved in a creative activity. This is real, it works, and it deserves support. But one huge note of caution: there's often a policy fantasy or even an imperative to deliver measurable change over a 3 month or 6 month or 1 year programme. What we've witnessed in our work as external project support or evaluation partners is that change is slow. Looking at a 5 year timeline gives a much more accurate idea of the impact of this kind of work. We need programmes, not short-term projects; and we need evaluation that is given its proper timeline and scope. When that happens, the value for money of these kinds of interventions becomes even more astounding.

🌟 Celebrating Advocacy & Reflections on a Milestone Day 🌟   Yesterday marked a significant milestone for the HIMSS state chapter, and it felt monumental. As a healthcare consultant striving to make impactful changes, it was not just another day for me. It also served as a vivid reminder of my journey and aspirations.   You see, from an early age, I've been deeply fascinated by our world leaders' capabilities to incite change. This passion once had me contemplating a move to Austin, envisioning a future as a lobbyist advocating for comprehensive healthcare reform. My love for Austin remains undiminished despite my career taking a slightly different path.   This experience symbolizes the essence of advocacy. It's about finding your voice, aligning with causes that matter, and realizing that the journey to change is a blend of community collaborations. Let this be your sign: the road might seem long and the challenges daunting, but the impact of advocacy in shaping a better future is undeniably profound.   Together, we can make a difference.
