Meeting Doomsday. What if… … we deleted ALL recurring meetings and couldn’t put them back on calendars until a certain waiting period? What would happen? Adam Grant in his ‘WorkLife with Adam Grant’ podcast on ‘Why Meetings Suck and How to Fix Them’ explores ways to reduce meetings and make the meeting we do have more efficient and effective. My key takeaway: Don’t get stuck in the meeting rut or “meeting bloat”. Just because something has always been a meeting, doesn’t mean it still has to be. Assessing periodically, why certain meetings exits and whether they serve a purpose is a great practice. If the meeting could be an email… well, make it an email. In a remote working environment, I believe that recurring meetings serve two purposes: (1) solve business problems together (duh!) and (2) stay connected on a more personal level – joke together, share updates if you feel comfortable. While these may not seem productive in the moment, knowing my coworkers on a personal level makes work more enjoyable and also helps me as a manager assess how my team feels about their work. Any tips on how to reduce meeting rut and/or make meetings more efficient? #corporatelife #meetingbloat #meetingrut #leadership #makemeetingsbetter https://lnkd.in/gQN3WNsb https://lnkd.in/gngwyr5p

🚨New episode of #BeatsWorking is out. Listen now at https://lnkd.in/gWYpCfTF 🤝 Most of us would like to feel respected at work, but sometimes we don’t. And sometimes, our co-workers feel disrespected by us. Julie Pham, PhD, has built a career on understanding where all the confusion comes from. She’s a #TEDx speaker, consultant, and the best-selling author of the book “The 7 Forms of Respect.” Dr. Pham doesn’t believe in the old saying, “Treat others the way you want to be treated,” because others may have a completely different concept of #respect than you do. Instead, she has what she calls the “rubber band rule.” In this episode, Dr. Pham talks more about that rule and why, as someone who teaches #curiosity as a practice, she believes every workplace should cultivate an atmosphere of curiosity and learning. “My biggest takeaway from this conversation is Dr. Pham’s strategy for talking with co-workers about our differences,” says #BeatsWorking host Mark Wright. “It safely opens the door for honest conversations that can lead to true understanding of the people we work with.” #RespectAtWork #CuriosityMatters #WorkplaceCulture #CareerInsights #ProfessionalDevelopment

Honored again to be a guest on Andrew Palmer's The Economist podcast, Boss Class, and this topic is a favorite of mine: the dreaded meeting. What's the objective? Do we have an agenda? Who's the decision maker? Meetings take so much of our time and can be extraordinarily unproductive. Thanks to Andrew for helping us all to be part of the solution, not the problem. And I seem to have inspired the title of this episode...meetings as clown cars, one of my favorite analogies. Listen now: https://lnkd.in/eVa6bU24
This week's episode of Boss Class gets to the heart of the matter. It's about meetings: whether to have them at all and how to run them better. You'll get to hear a little of our own editorial meetings here at The Economist. Claire Hughes Johnson, Erin Meyer, Zanny Minton Beddoes and Tia Silas offer wise advice. And the parish council of Handforth will remind you how not to do it. Thirty minutes of your time now could save you years of heartache. A reminder that this episode is only available to subscribers. #StrategyWednesday Episode 16: Navigating Corporate Efficiency - Three Vital Reminders. Hello, Strategy Enthusiasts! In the intricate tapestry of corporate dynamics, Episode 16 of #StrategyWednesday brings forth three indispensable reminders for staying focused, efficient, and effective—from the top-level management to the downline. 3 things you should never do when working in the corporate world. Vital Reminder 1: Never Divulge Personal Secrets at the Workplace: Guard the boundary between personal and professional life. While some personal information may be shared, avoid over-disclosure. Focus on enhancing your effectiveness and efficiency, allowing your professional capabilities to shine. Many have fallen victim to unguarding boundaries. Vital Reminder 2: Never Assume Your Colleagues Are Your Friends: When it comes to defense they will save their skin. In the corporate arena, assumptions can be perilous. True friendships are invaluable, but they aren't often cultivated within office walls. Earn them like trust and treasure them like gold, understanding that professional interests often take precedence. Vital Reminder 3: Avoid Discussing Disagreements with Company Policies: Disagreements with company policies are natural, but airing them among colleagues may have consequences. Strategic conversations with relevant stakeholders are more fruitful than discussions that could potentially be used against you. Let's collectively navigate the corporate landscape with wisdom and strategic acumen. Your efficiency and effectiveness are key pillars in creating a thriving work environment. Share your insights and experiences on these reminders, and let's foster a culture of strategic professionalism! #CorporateEfficiency #Professionalism #Strategywednesday Frank Asamoah, MBA #LinkedInCommunity
