Quantify your experience and accomplishments! Adding numbers to your remote nurse resume can help you stand out and add credibility 👇 📌 Our challenge to you - find at least one place for each role where you can add numbers Ideas of where you can do this: ▪️ Unit size ▪️ Hospital bed count ▪️ How many staff members you supervised (licensed and unlicensed) ▪️ Number of nurses you precepted ▪️ Results of evidence-based projects and other process improvement initiatives ▪️ Number of committees you're on ▪️ How many patients your ER sees daily ▪️ Number of births your department sees a year ▪️ Number of physicians in a private practice you work at 📌 Hands down my favorite place to quantify is project results FILL IN THE BLANK EXAMPLE: ▪️ Reduced <problem> X% by <describe what you implemented> ▪️ Reduced CLABSI 45% by implementing department-wide sterile dressing change education and competency checks

BRINGING AWARENESS TO WORKPLACE RESPECT IN HEALTHCARE‼️ Recently, while working at Avera Hospital as a pharmacy technician in training, I had an interaction with a nurse that highlighted a concerning issue in our healthcare environment. While filling a medication drawer, I made a light-hearted joke with a nurse, only to be met with the remark, "Yes I can because I have a higher degree than you." This moment, witnessed by a fellow colleague, was a stark reminder of the hierarchical attitudes that persist in our field. In my previous role as a NA, I frequently encountered similar disrespect. Nurses would often delegate tasks to me in a manner that felt demeaning, reminding me that certain duties were "my job" while they remained at the nurses' station. Such experiences were frustrating and disheartening, especially since every role in healthcare is vital. The reality is that healthcare is a collaborative effort. Pharmacy technicians, CNAs, Nurses, and all other healthcare professionals play indispensable roles. Each position is crucial to the seamless operation of our facilities and the well-being of our patients. It's disconcerting to see some nurses, who are essential to patient care, exhibit inflated egos and a lack of respect for their colleagues. Many of these professionals face long hours and demanding schedules, which undoubtedly impact their well-being, yet this should not translate into a culture of disrespect. It's time we foster a more respectful and collaborative environment in healthcare. Every professional, regardless of their title or degree, deserves to be treated with respect and recognition for their contributions. By acknowledging and addressing these issues, we can create a healthier and more supportive workplace for everyone involved. Growing generations of nurse advocates | We fight for issues that frustrate you, by being a platform that empowers you.
An update from our Policy Aide, Make'da Traynum who attended the last week's BRN Meeting... . . During this meeting, the board informed the public about removing barriers for retired nurses, public health nurses, and out-of-state nurses to obtain licensure in California. Initiatives like these demonstrate the BRN's commitment to addressing workforce challenges and facilitating professional mobility. -Discussed the Federal Professional Portability Licensing Act -Removal of public health nurse certification fee (AB 2171) -Streamlining the nursing faculty approval process (AB 2015) -Collaborating with DCA to develop an enrollment IT tool to monitor the movement of schools (e.g. enrollments) throughout the state: public and private -Fingerprints are under the DOJ, not the BRN as it is not under their jurisdiction. This is the reasoning for hard copy print of fingerprints requests from other states -Legislative Bills the BRN is tracking as it pertains to nursing 👉🏽The ANA\C implores fellow #nurses to attend a BRN meeting and experience firsthand how nurses can actively participate in changing nursing regulations through public comment. These meetings offer invaluable insights into subjects that can directly or indirectly impact nursing practice, the profession, academia, and even our communities. Engaging in this process empowers nurses to shape the future of the field!! Get Involved: https://www.rn.ca.gov/
