Starting tomorrow (May 6), the American Academy of Family Physicians will host its 2024 Physician Health & Well-Being Conference. The one thing I appreciate about this conference is it is a comprehensive approach to physician well-being that focuses on assisting the individual, but also on system change that improve the clinical work environment. For example, there are courses on: - Assess your individual current state of well-being and develop personal well-being improvement plan. - Develop a personal action plan to improve, promote, and/or maintain a positive state of well-being. But there are also courses on: - Identify the five ecosystems of health care that impact career satisfaction and physician well-being and connect to improved patient outcomes. - Determine personal areas of need to address chronic stressors within practice. - Develop leadership plan that seeks to improve patient outcomes through improved organization or group level systems. I am really proud of this program and the incredible work our staff and the faculty have put into making this a best-in-class education opportunity for family physicians and other participants. https://lnkd.in/gJvmv7Jt

As you can imagine, in healthcare and sciences there is a lot of information to go around and be viewed. This was a project that took a powerful team to take a heavy amount of content for multiple parties; physicians, patients, researchers, etc. and making it easily digestible for every viewer. Designing websites is about finding the right balance of sharing just enough data while remaining visually striking. Also big shout out to Rich Le (Killer UX Strategist and just an amazing human)
Great news! Our client Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Inc. has placed in the Website category for a NESHCo Lamplighter Award. 👩⚕️👨⚕️🏥🩺🫀🫁 HLTH needs a physician track. I really enjoyed #HLTH2023 and already looking forward to 2024. It was my first time attending; I'll share my other impressions: 1️⃣ If HLTH wants to grow, it needs more dedicated sessions for physicians. The few physician-only sessions were great; the others were overly vague to appeal to a wider audience but were essentially worthless to practicing clinicians attending (who are already going to be aware of AI in medicine if they're attending HLTH in the first place). 2️⃣ My god it was expensive. I get that there's a lot of companies there with a lot of investor money that's ripe for the taking, but the registration fee alone was 3x the cost of most medical conferences, with far lower-yield presentations (see point 1). 3️⃣ It was absolutely wonderful to re-connect with people in person, maskless and make new connections with a bunch of really smart, driven people. 4️⃣ The Exhibition hall was great and exciting to see so much enthusiasm and interest in healthcare and technology. 5️⃣ After a long day of socializing small talk from 8am-5pm, the last thing I wanted to do was drink and party for 4 more hours and then get up again at 7am to start all over again. <insert old man/get off my lawn gif here> Props to Zus Health for an engaging morning event where they picked physician brains without pitching the product.

Doctor | Venture Builder | Innovating for Impact | Investor | Acting Local Thinking Global | Fellow @ TED, Echoing Green, Aspen Institute
Fast-forward five years, and our commitment has not only persisted but intensified. Today, Speetar serves nearly 3 million beneficiaries, over two-thirds of whom are women and children. We've facilitated over 350,000 hybrid-care deliveries and connected a network of more than 2,500 medical providers globally. Our platform proudly reports a 73% retention rate and an astounding 89% quarterly growth in our user base. But our mission expanded beyond service provision. Through our spinoff, Academia we've embarked on local capacity building, training over 26,000 healthcare workers—doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, dieticians and more. Many of these dedicated professionals would not have had the opportunity to obtain their training otherwise, playing a crucial role in crafting resilient future healthcare systems. The journey has been filled with ups and downs, yet every challenge has only strengthened our resolve. Proximity to the challenges we tackle is crucial; while innovations can be replicated, their impact cannot. Choosing to focus on rebuilding an innovative care system, particularly post-conflict and with the growing Libyan medical brain drain, has not been an easy path. I could not be prouder of our team of DOERS, who continue to ideate, create, and operate for a better future. #PoweredByCare #GlobalHealth #SocialInnovation
On June 5th, 2019, Speetar was honored with the Harvard Medical School Dean's Community Service Award, a testament to our early efforts in transforming healthcare access. Through the ebbs and flows, our vision remains unwavering, fueled by the immense support we've received. Together, we're not just delivering care; we're nurturing the very heart of innovation in every community we touch. #PoweredByCare

Clinical Trials in Canada - We could do even more for patients On this important International Clinical Trials Day, I am wondering how we further advance Canada’s capacity in this area of healthcare. Every provincial and even federal life sciences strategy speaks to bringing more clinical trials to Canada. Why? Because this could be an area of real strength for Canada with our tremendous researchers, our public hospitals and our diverse populations. We could be a world leader in this space if we want it. Again, if we want it. What could we do? Three important things: 1) Streamlined Ethics Review Board: We could follow McMaster University ‘s Dr P.J. Devereaux’s work towards a country wide coordination for a single ethics review board so that we worked as a team across the country 2) Faster recruitment timelines: we now have amazing agencies like Clinicals Trials Ontario and Catalis in Québec who are poised to partner with companies and hospitals to bring trials to patients in a faster and more streamlined way. Can we commit to faster timelines? 90 days is no longer competitive around the world. 3) Standards of Care: With our tremendously diverse populations in Canada, we could ensure new innovative medicines could be available to Canadian patients faster. For that to happen, new medicines must be commercially available in Canada faster than (or at least on par with) other developed countries because clinical trials build on the standard of care of the currently available medicines. If the medicines are not available in the country (or the province), the trials go elsewhere. Maybe you have additional ideas? I would love to hear them and to work as a coordinated team to help bring new medicines to Canadians, to strengthen our economies and ensure we are ready for future emergencies. Today, on International Clinical Trials Day, we celebrate the tireless efforts of all those involved in advancing medical research and innovation worldwide. Clinical trials have both a profound impact on patients' lives and the future of healthcare, and I’m grateful for everyone of my colleagues, clinicians and partners who work to help patients in need and pursue medical innovation every day! #ClinicalTrialsDay #WeAreRoche
