This past Monday, our Five Star Bank team had the privilege of visiting FeedMore WNY. We are honored to partner with this incredible organization on a number of local initiatives. Most recently, we provided grant funds to support its RISE program, which provides free job-training and additional support for economically disadvantaged adults in WNY. Thank you, FeedMore WNY, for your inspiring work and for giving us a tour of your facility!

Have you heard of the Life Chances Fund? 👀 Managed by The National Lottery Community Fund (on behalf of Department for Culture, Media and Sport), the Life Chances Fund has supported transformational projects all across the country – improving people’s lives using #personalised and strengths-based approaches, while saving the taxpayer money. 💪 Thanks to LCF’s funding, we and our partners have been able to design and deliver vital services across a number of policy areas – learning valuable insights along the way, and sharing these across the wider #policy and #outcomes ecosystem. #StrongerFamilies, for example, uses therapy to keep families together and stop children going into care. 👪 Alongside Family Psychology Mutual CIC and Norfolk County Council, our local partnership has averted more than 175,800 days in care for children, contributing to better home experiences and improving overall life chances. To learn more, take a look at DCMS’s recent explainer – which shines a light on a range of organisations creating #positive #impact across the country, with the Life Chances Fund’s support. We hear a lot about restricted grants in philanthropy, but not enough about the power of supports "beyond the grant." For years, Anne Marie Burgoyne and the team at Emerson Collective have been pioneers in providing out-of-the-box -- and totally transformative -- supports to their grantees. As Anne Marie writes: "Foundations often focus their time and attention on making large operating grants to nonprofits — and rightly so given their importance to grantees. Yet sometimes, untraditional support that falls outside of typical funding — so-called 'beyond the grant' opportunities — can have an even greater impact." One example: in recent years, Emerson funded 400 teams to visit the Equal Justice Initiative's Legacy Museum in Montgomery, Alabama. The theory was that by supporting organizations in having shared, immersive experience learning about America's history of racial injustice, they'd spark personal growth and team transformation. Not surprisingly, it worked. While the impact of these grants can't be easily measured in dollars & cents or lives saved....the ripple effect of these investments will be felt for decades to come. For more on how they did it and what they learned, check out Anne Marie's latest in The Chronicle of Philanthropy #philanthropy #nonprofit #racialequity #beyondthegrant
Emerson Collective has been so grateful over the years to partner with Equal Justice Initiative to support bringing our grantee partners to EJI’s Legacy sites in Montgomery, Alabama. I am excited to share this op-ed that reflects on our learnings from offering this "beyond the grant program". And a big thanks to the The Chronicle of Philanthropy for their support in publishing this piece. https://lnkd.in/gm83CyvY

Thank you very much for thinking of me and Bulldog Financial Planning this April during your Volunteer appreciation month. When founding Bulldog Financial Planning, I wanted to make sure that there was a commitment to financial education and financial literacy. #BulldogFinancialPlanning #BulldogFP #financialliteracy #financialplanning #financialfreedom #financialeducation #finance
April is National Volunteer Month! To celebrate we are shining a light on our amazing volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to giving back to the community through JA! Today we want to thank Patrick Randall, CFP®, MBA from Bulldog Financial Planning. Patrick has been volunteering with us since January 2023 and in that time, he has become one of our most dedicated and consistent volunteers. He has joined us at multiple schools, teaching financial literacy programs at different grade levels. Thank you, Patrick! We appreciate all you do to help teach our youth. #volunteer #volunteerappreciation

Despite their brazen objectives, it can be difficult to identify how these supposedly “grassroots” efforts are organized and how they function. The groups have positive-sounding names like Moms for Liberty (M4L) and Parents Defending Education (PDE). Look behind the curtain and you’ll see the investors: billionaires like Charles Koch, Betsy DeVos, Jeffrey Yass and Walmart’s Walton family who are out to replace community schools with voucher systems that decimate rural and small town schools, and subsidize private schools for the well-off. https://buff.ly/4e93LwA

Another fantastic project benefiting from funding raised through the Scottish Children's Lottery! This initiative aims to empower economically vulnerable youth in Scotland over an intensive 18-week period, cultivating confidence, essential skills, and self-belief for their journey toward success. The core of Growing2gether lies in a unique mentoring dynamic, where participants take on the role of mentors for nursery children requiring additional support. In today's challenging socio-economic landscape, initiatives like this are indispensable for nurturing the well-being and development of both high school youth and nursery children. For high school participants, many of whom could be at a heightened risk of being adversely affected by poverty, the program provides a crucial lifeline. It offers a transformative space where they not only acquire practical life skills but also develop an increased sense of self-belief and community connection through their mentoring roles. In an era marked by various societal pressures and economic disparities, such initiatives become vital in equipping these young minds with the resilience and skills necessary to navigate challenges, fostering a sense of purpose and direction for their futures. Simultaneously, for nursery children requiring additional support, the program serves as a beacon of positive influence. The mentorship provided by high school participants goes beyond academic assistance, offering emotional support and role modelling that can be pivotal in their early developmental years. The engagement with older mentors not only aids in academic progress but also contributes to building a nurturing environment, instilling a sense of security and self-assurance in these young children. As they interact with mentors who have faced and overcome challenges themselves, nursery children are exposed to positive role models, expanding their horizons and encouraging aspirations that extend beyond immediate circumstances. In essence, Growing2gether serves as a bridge, addressing the unique needs of both high school youth and nursery children, fostering a symbiotic relationship that propels holistic growth and development for all involved.
🌟Exciting News for 2024! Kicking off the year with a bang! We're ready to spread positive vibes and make a real impact on young people's lives in the Highlands, Moray, Aberdeen, and Dundee through our Growing2gether Nursery Mentoring and Growing2gether Community programmes.
