Breakfast has always been the most important meal of the day. Because it sets the foundation for everything that follows. So, for those who skip it, I ask: → If students don’t eat breakfast, how can they stay focused in class? → Why compromise their energy levels before the day even begins? → Is it worth risking their academic performance? In my experience, and that of many experts, skipping breakfast leads to: → Poor concentration and memory → Low energy and mood swings → Decreased academic performance So, students, parents, and educators, let’s treat breakfast as a non-negotiable necessity. If we want our students to excel, a nutritious breakfast is the solution, not a problem. Let’s make breakfast a must-have for every student. NEW REPORT: We worked with the California School Nutrition Association in partnership with Food Insight Group to conduct the first study of K–12 school food staff shortages in California. The study revealed the rate of unfilled positions in the state’s school food programs is three times higher than unfilled positions for U.S. public school teachers. High vacancy rates negatively impact schools’ ability to provide access to and serve students healthy, appetizing meals. Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/eaP-sSq7

Did you know? LVA offers a fresh and nutritious breakfast every morning to all of our K-12 students for free? There are so many benefits to starting the day with breakfast! Be sure to encourage your students to check out the cafes and breakfast carts during arrival. Why we are excited: - Each breakfast is required to meet USDA nutritional standards, and includes foods like whole grains, fruits, and milk. - With breakfast, students perform better on tests, have a better attention span, and have fewer visits to the school nurse for headaches. - Breakfast is a nourishing mid-morning snack for students who have long commutes or activities before the school day starts. - When students can depend on receiving nutritious meals at school, it relieves the whole family of stress from the morning rush and improves students’ arrival time!

https://lnkd.in/e7VtyAXM This article has caught the attention of much of the nation. It has even been discussed on ITV’s This Morning today. In the article, the Head Teacher at a secondary school in Southampton explains how they are not impressed by the quality of the food served to the pupils at his school. Good quality, tasty and nutritious food served at school is essential for pupils to grow and develop both physically and mentally. Not to mention how it lays the foundation for pupils to have a good relationship with food as they become adults. At school, pupils should look forward to enjoying some of their 3 daily meals and 2 daily snacks. Whilst the majority of these should be healthy and balanced, it’s essential we’re all reminded of what a healthy and balanced school meal should consist of. Throughout the week the meals offered should contain a variety of different vegetables, fruits, pulses (beans, lentils and chickpeas), foods high in complex carbohydrates (e.g. wholegrains where possible), protein foods and some dairy or dairy alternatives, with oily fish being offered once every 2 weeks as well. Whilst there are many different factors involved in pupils receiving these healthy balanced lunches (including catering operational challenges and also the pupil's choice) we should tirelessly work together to ensure pupils have the opportunity to properly nourish themselves throughout the school day, every day. #SchoolFoodQuality #NutritiousSchoolMeals #ChildWellnessMatters #BalancedSchoolMeals #HealthyFoodChoices #SchoolMealStandards #NutritionAwareness #SchoolMealQuality #NourishTheNextGeneration
