Today is an opportunity to slow down and give thanks for our many blessings. We are thankful for our staff who work tirelessly to care for our community, and we are especially appreciative of those who are working today. On Nov. 23, all UF Health St. Johns outpatient locations and the Publix Pharmacy at UF Health Flagler Hospital are closed in observance of Thanksgiving. If you need medical care that day, our urgent care locations in St. Augustine and MuraBella will be open from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., and the hospital will remain open. UF Health St. Johns is honored to be named the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce 2023 Member of the Year. “With the establishment of UF Health in St. Johns County and the launch of its Durbin Park campus construction, St. Johns County will be positioned to meet the growing needs of our community for decades to come,” said Chamber President Isabelle Renault. President and CEO Carlton DeVooght received the award on behalf of the organization and praised the team at UF Health St. Johns for their dedication to advancing the benefits of quality health care in North Florida. Susan Digulla, an OPS specialist in outpatient surgery at UF Health Flagler Hospital, has been named Employee of the Month. A team member says that she is “so deserving of recognition and appreciation” and recognizes that Digulla’s “sweet and kind demeanor leaves a great first impression on our patients,” which is a key element to creating a positive patient experience. She is described as a hard worker who is always willing to help the team and is considered a “hero of our department.” Congratulations, Susan, on being named UF Health St. Johns Employee of the Month.

This Veterans Day and every day, we are grateful to the men and women who have dutifully served this great nation. Together with our partners, UF Health St. Johns remains committed to ending veteran homelessness in our community with the goal of zero homeless veterans by the end of the year. We are excited to share that Patriot Place, a six-unit complex for at-risk veterans who already live in St. Johns County, will soon open to welcome its first residents, moving us even closer to that goal. Veterans will also receive individualized case management from their UF Health St. Johns Care Connect case worker for the duration of their time at Patriot Place. From workforce development, education, health care and transportation, these caseworkers create a case plan based on the unique needs of each client and their goals. In addition, Patriot Place will collaborate with other veteran service organizations to offer enrichment opportunities to foster mental health and well-being. Our newest Employee of the Month honoree is Gage Kazmierski! Gage is a respiratory assistant in the respiratory therapy department. His team nominated him for this recognition, describing him as "hard-working, always on time, and always there when needed." They regularly see Gage going above and beyond by helping and teaching others on the team. Congratulations, Gage!

Art and creativity can be a way to express emotions and an outlet for feelings that may be difficult to express in words. Help patients in our inpatient behavioral health unit by participating in our art supply drive. Drop off art supplies to collection boxes at the hospital’s front desk or cafeteria from Oct. 30 – Nov. 5. Needed items include markers, canvases, crayons, adult coloring books, non-toxic paint, paintbrushes, small wooden objects to paint and composition notebooks.
