New challenge ahead and looking forward to a very creative and engaging future through 2025 and beyond…
If you know me… You’ll know I love learning how brands have taken the leap to become more environmentally friendly. And, Nike's latest collaboration with French carrier CMA CGM is a prime example. Collaborating in aid to slash carbon emissions in maritime transport, Nike is committing to sustainable biofuel for 36% of its volume until May 31, 2024, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions by 25,000 tonnes. I think this collaboration could be a great step toward influencing other large companies to adopt green practices. Do you think this will be a catalyst to nudge others to become more sustainable? https://lnkd.in/e9ExeEFV

Did you know? - The apparel and footwear sectors account for 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions. 💨 - Food waste from sports events contributes to significant greenhouse gas emissions. 🥦 - Major sporting events generate up to 750,000 plastic bottles each. 🍶 - Carbon fibre is a game-changer in sports equipment, but recycling remains challenging. ❗ A great discussion by Claire Poole that, whilst we certainly need to continue to improve recycling, ‘it’s clear that we must now shift to refuse, reduce, reuse urgently.’ ‘At a recent Pledgeball fan engagement event, Lorraine Whitmarsh MBE spoke about the importance of behaviour change and referenced research by Dr Diana Ivanova on ‘Quantifying the potential for climate change mitigation of consumption options’. In other words, what options do we have at our disposal that will actually impact the climate crisis? Recommendations (particularly in a high-income context) were living car-free, taking fewer long-haul flights, moving to renewable energy, and eating a vegan diet. These actions can reduce our individual carbon footprint from anywhere between 0.8 and 2 tonnes CO2eq/capita/yr. This research showed that recycling saved 0.01 tonnes CO2eq/capita/yr. 🖇 https://lnkd.in/e2PnAWcg #ProtectWhereWePlay

Under Armour wants to create a circular system by 2030🗓️👀 To transition their products back into recycled/reusable material after they've been used. They set high-reaching goals for the next several years↓ → Reach net zero emissions by 2050 → Reduce single-use plastics in packaging by 75% by 2030 → Repair and recycle 75% of damaged products by 2025 → Move to 100% renewable electricity in all facilities by 2030 Recycling for many manufacturers is the easiest point to start as it doesn't require changing the material flows. Would we change anything about their strategy? We'd love to see a bigger focus on D2C rental and reselling programs. 1️⃣There is a demand for a resale program with an independent Facebook group of 11,000 people reselling Under Armour clothing. 2️⃣The inventory allows for a rental model + the rentals in sport&outdoor are increasing. Industry revenue has grown at a CAGR of 3.0 % over the past five years to reach an estimated $957.3m in 2024. Let us know what are your thoughts on Under Amour's sustainability plan👋
