With Ramadan just around the corner, it's incredibly important to be mindful and considerate of your Muslim colleagues over the coming weeks. ❤️ Not quite sure how to show your consideration? Feel a bit unsure about what Ramadan even is? Don't have anyone you can ask? Thankfully, the fabulous Nujhat H., Senior Sales Associate at Flex Legal, has pulled together this wonderfully handy guide to Ramadan. In it she takes us through what and when this holy month is, why it is celebrated exactly, and how you can help to support any colleagues who are taking part. Here's a quick sneak peek of Nujhat's top three tips for non-Muslim employers and colleagues: 💤 Be more mindful around Muslim colleagues who are fasting and understand that they are likely to be more tired than they usually would be. ⏰ Temporarily push meeting times back where possible. For example, moving morning catch-up meetings to 10am instead of 9am. A simple, easy change that will go a long way to showing your true consideration. 🍛 Allow your employees who are fasting to leave earlier than normal. This means that they will be able to make it back home in time to break their fast with the rest of their family, an incredibly important part of Ramadan. Thank you to Nujhat for sharing these tips with us and the wider legal community, and Ramadan Mubarak to all our followers who are taking part. 💫 #ramadan2024 #ramadanmubarak #diversityinlaw #muslimcommunity

So proud of you #Shaun Tay and #FCB Shout team for reminding me of what it means to be in the legal profession. There is mounting debate on what is considered appropriate remuneration for pupils and young lawyers amongst the more established legal firms recently. I myself have often been faced with the question of whether the remuneration provided by my firm is sufficient to attract young talent to our humble firm. This video has reminded me that the pursuit of material gains in our profession must be balanced with a higher aspiration, in that we must find meaning in our work and take pride and enjoyment in what we do. So this is a shout-out to the young aspiring litigators out there, I am seeking a pupil in chambers and what I have to offer is this: You will be sufficiently remunerated for your time with us, but don't expect us to match the market of international cross border transaction firms with a head count of 50 lawyers out there. I am looking for a pupil to take under my wing, to nurture and hone their skills as a corporate commercial litigator, so you will be interacting with me closely. This could be good or bad depending on how you look at it. 😉 Our firm is too small for you to have to worry about firm politics and hierarchy, we prefer to focus on our interesting work and deriving value both for ourselves and the clients. The only thing toxic about us is the partners' love of intoxicating drinks and the lively music (sometimes self performed) that we enjoy to let off some of the pressure that comes with our job. So if you are looking for a not so young, fun loving yet ferocious litigator, slightly flawed human being but with a heart in the right place, to guide and nurture you through your path to becoming a lawyer, do drop me an email at: kelly@maliskhoo.com general@maliskhoo.com #malis&khoo #kuala lumpur #pupil in chambers https://lnkd.in/dvbtchxr

Supporting Māori public servants This article from e:tangata starts with this statement. “It’s a difficult time to be a Māori public servant — many are faced with implementing policies that target and minimise things of importance to Māori, while trying to carry on doing their jobs and uphold the mana of their positions.” It goes on to describe efforts to support Māori public servants. Māori public servants should never get landed with pursuing the Māori Kaupapa alone. Organisations themselves must take this responsibility. All public servants, individually and collectively, can think of ways of supporting their Māori colleagues. https://lnkd.in/gGC69-Ch #publicservice #supportkaupapa #publicservants

Trust orders and Marae charters are key documents for Māori land trusts that help guide decision making and governance and should be regularly reviewed. Over the weekend I spent some time with trustees and beneficiaries of an ahu whenua trust updating and modernising their trust order. Travelling across the motu for this kaupapa is one of the great aspects of my mahi. Check out my key tips for updating trust orders below. #whenua #goodgovernance #goodpeople

New regulation for handling business partnership cases by the competition regulator: improvement for large businesses… or setback? The Indonesia Competition Commission (“KPPU”) has recently revoked Regulation 4/2019 on the Supervision and Handling of Partnership Disputes, replacing it with Regulation 2/2024 (“New KPPU Regulation”). The New KPPU Regulation impacts the way disputes between large companies and micro, small and medium enterprises are handled by the KPPU at each stage of the proceeding, and this may both benefit and burden large companies. Authors Partner Verry Iskandar, Foreign Counsel Robert Reid, and Senior Associate Valeri Soekarno provide a comprehensive update to address this issue. Read more at this link https://lnkd.in/gwTPWiCF
