TEDx Organiser | Communication Trainer | Public Speaking Coach | Mentor | 3x LinkedIn Top Voice | Bringing elements of connection into professional communication
My home office this week: ✈ A small airclub in the Czech Republic. When I was training for my glider pilot license, my instructor jokingly told me: "The most important thing to practice is taking off. It's the only step you must do to fly." This stuck with me. Starting is crucial. Whether it's: → Learning a skill → Launching a business → Picking up a new hobby Starting is the first step. The rest follows. But some people hesitate, fearing what comes next. Here's the secret: → The first step makes the rest possible. → Once you start, momentum builds. → Taking off leads to the journey. Have something you've been wanting to start? Take off. P.S. What's the most interesting place you've worked from?

Harman and Ethan haven't even left the ground, and the learning process is already fully engaged. Like everything in flight, Taxing and Comms are part of the many aspects of mastering the skies. Learning how to fly is one of the most rewarding and engaging challenges we can take on. Flying as a career is a beautiful Journey, but there is an argument that the experience alone, of learning how to fly, is enough reason to go through the process of getting your private pilot license. Whether you are interested in becoming a career pilot or just the adventure of obtaining your PPL, flyNEXA is the place to learn if you want to go through the process in the most modern, safe, easy-to-fly, and comfortable aircraft in the flight school industry.

Founder + content creator for GoFly Online (RPC/RPL/CPL aviation theory, video briefings, pilot practice exams). Owner & Deputy Chief Flight Instructor of GoFly Aviation (RAAus flight school, Caloundra).
During their Recreational Pilot Certificate training our students work their way through the syllabus, starting with 'The Effects of Controls', 'Straight & Level', 'Climbing and Descending'. Lesson 4 covers 'Turns'. This is what a 45 degree steep turn looks like, using the horizon as a guide, and showing what the turn looks like on the instrument display. If you wanted to, you can watch the first few video lessons of the recreational syllabus, over at our flight training platform at: https://lnkd.in/g58KHgf6

Wingtip Wednesday … A different angle. Question: Why is the Captain doing the walk around? Let me share with you why. The walk around gives my job "scale". It reminds me of where I came from and how far. It is the first step and opportunity for me to interface with the aircraft, at a primal level. It also gives me another opportunity to meet other members of the team. The Crew Chief, the ramp crew, occasionally the AMTs, the aircraft re-fuelers. All vitally important members of our team. It earns credibility with the other flight deck crew members. Whether it’s one First Officer or three. "The Captain is doing the walk around", rain or shine and they appreciate it. As I come onboard, I’ll check in with the Purser and Flight Attendants to make sure that they have everything they need to perform their duties and brief them on the details of our flight together. But the most important reason that I do the walk around, it is a sign of respect & trust. I respect my First Officers and trust them in preparing the flight deck and navigation / performance systems for our trip to a far away destination. We have procedures, flows and checklist to verify all is correct before we depart. But I’ve established that trust going forward. That’s why I’m doing the walk around. Nice view of the wingtip, wouldn’t you agree? Credit to Ralyn Wheeler for the “Wingtip Wednesday” inspiration.

If your goal is to be an airline pilot, it’s rather important to realise that airlines wont look at you when you first graduate from Flight Training. You need to build hours first. Two low hour employers have contributed to this article with what they are looking for when brand new CPL pilots come door knocking and/or emailing.
