The artist creates real clouds indoors The lifespan of the sculpture by the Dutch artist Berndnaut Smilde is approximately ten seconds. After all, his works are not made of clay or marble. They are barely noticeable and cannot be fixed in one place. Ten seconds is enough just to take a high-quality photo. Of course, we are talking about tiny clouds that the artist creates in various rooms: from coal mines to cathedrals. The series of photographs of tiny clouds is called Nimbus. Berndnaut creates its clouds exclusively in suitable rooms, which must be sufficiently cold and damp. Air should not circulate in the shooting area. The photographer does everything to ensure that the final shot is as effective as possible: he spends hours setting up his equipment, achieving the temperature conditions he needs, and carefully setting the light. At the same time, a crowd of curious onlookers inevitably gathers around the artist, filming the entire process on their smartphones. The clouds themselves are born using a special machine that generates clots of smoke. The smoke collides with water vapor pre-sprayed in the room, becoming heavy, and a cloud is born. The artist tries to make his clouds as compact as possible. If you make their size larger than two meters, then they can simply crumble into separate parts. I like my clouds to be as concentrated as possible. This way, their texture is better visible, says the artist. The process of photographing one cloud usually takes several days. The photo has to be perfect, so Berndnaut has to create on average 100 different clouds before he gets the desired image. I see these clouds as temporary sculptures. They are practically nothing. This is the edge of the material world. It seems to you that you can dive into them, grab them with your hand, but they simply dissolve. My clouds are perfect objects that dissolve just a few seconds after they are born. In 2012, Times magazine recognized the technique of creating mini-clouds as one of the fifty best inventions of the year, so we can safely say that Berndnaut Smilde s efforts did not go unnoticed. Many celebrities are lining up for the chance to be photographed with tiny clouds created by an artist from the Netherlands. Watch on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/dYdAdmgE #nikolaysgeneticslessons

Continuation and conclusion of the report on my visit to the exhibition "Seeing Time in Colors" at the Centre Pompidou-Metz : 2. The Care of the Colors Section #12 reminds us that color fixation techniques appeared and evolved between the late 19th and early 20th centuries: there was Louis Duclos du Hauron's trichromy, Gabriel Lippmann's interferential method, and the Lumière brothers' autochromes... 🌈 This emergence of color provides a new perspective on the photographic recording of Reality. It allows archiving the planet in all its chromatic palette, as suggested by Albert Kahn's series in section #13. 🗺️ Thus, through the work of color in photography, artists have propelled this new visual medium into the academic field of Fine Arts. Section #14 highlights the Vivex process developed by Yevonde Middleton, whose aesthetic quality is demonstrated in the "Goddesses" series of 1935. 👩🎤 Section #15 also features numerous works by Saul Leiter, highlighting his ability to capture/construct life moments that become true pictorial compositions: the depth of field, the complexity of successive planes, and the colors of the Reality arranged within the frame of the lens like an impressionist painting, even though we are in a contemporary urban world. The same pictoriality emerges from the American photographers showcased in section #16, such as Joel Meyerowitz. 🖼️ Finally, the exhibition concludes with section #17 by questioning the reaction of painting to photography, which has continuously challenged it with a revolution in imagery. Sam Stourdzé concludes his reflective journey with Gerhard Richter's paintings which, not without a touch of derision, replicate the visual feats of photography through hyperrealistic metapicture (no less!), as a way of expressing that painting is not dead; as a manual work of the eye, it can indeed embrace the territory of photography and much more... 🧑🎨

ARTIST / PHOTOGRAPHER / EDITOR / CONTENT CREATOR / WRITER / GRAPHIC DESIGNER / DIRECTOR “I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way—things I had no words for.”
There are several key reasons why artists create hyper-realistic art despite the ease of taking a photograph: Artistic expression and control - Painting or sculpting a hyper-realistic work allows the artist to carefully control every aspect of the final piece, from the composition to the colors to the texture, in a way that a photograph cannot match. This gives the artist more creative freedom to express their vision. Technical mastery and skill - Producing a highly realistic work through painting or sculpture requires an extremely high level of technical skill and craftsmanship that can surpass even the capabilities of modern cameras and digital tools. This allows artists to showcase their virtuosic abilities. Emotional impact - Hyper-realistic art can often have a more powerful emotional resonance and connection with the viewer than a simple photograph. The painstaking process of creating the work by hand imbues it with a sense of humanity and personality. Timelessness and permanence - Whereas photographs can be easily duplicated digitally, a one-of-a-kind hyper-realistic painting or sculpture has a sense of timelessness and permanence that a photograph often lacks. Conceptual depth - Some hyper-realistic artists use their technical mastery to explore deeper conceptual themes and ideas that go beyond mere imitation of reality. The realism then becomes a means to a greater artistic end. So in summary, while photography is a powerful medium, hyper-realistic art allows artists to express themselves, showcase their skills, and create works of profound emotional and conceptual impact that photography alone cannot match.
