India is taking another step in its quest to find valuable minerals hidden in the depths of the ocean which could hold the key to a cleaner future. The country, which already has two deep-sea exploration licences in the Indian Ocean, has applied for two more amid increasing competition between major global powers to secure critical minerals. Countries including China, Russia and India are vying to reach the huge deposits of mineral resources - cobalt, nickel, copper, manganese - that lie thousands of metres below the surface of oceans. These are used to produce renewable energy such as solar and wind power, electric vehicles and battery technology needed to battle against climate change. #deepseamining https://lnkd.in/gtXJgAgM

https://lnkd.in/gSr6nYHT The ancient Rishies, monks, abhors, yogis, thinkers on Indian subcontinent saw divine as Mother Shakti. Nothing moves or stops without energy. A nation can progress if it manages its natural resources economically and effectively and intelligently for its needs, now and later. It is heartening to know that Government at the Center, other competent authorities have tried to anticipate needs of coal etc in advance and accordingly stock the precious resource. The consumption of energy / electricity shoots up in Indian summer in urban areas. During monsoon movement of coal ,its logistic creates problem. If the authorities anticipate and plan accordingly its is a great news. Apparently the current central governments and associate authorities have done their homework That is great for economy. #power , #COALAUTHORITY ,#NATURALRESOURCES #ECONOMY #INDUSTRALGROWTH #ENERGY #INDIA #ENERGYCONSUMPTION

India's energy trade with Russia gets a boost with Kuzbass coal via INSTC First shipment of high-quality Kuzbass coal from Siberia arrives in India via the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC). This new route strengthens India-Russia trade ties and offers an alternative to traditional European routes. India is increasing its coal imports from Russia to meet its energy needs, driven by cost benefits and the Ukraine conflict. The INSTC is a significant development for regional connectivity, benefiting multiple countries across Central Asia and the Middle East. #India #Russia #Trade #Energy #INSTC #KuzbassCoal

India has applied for two deep-sea exploration licences in the Indian Ocean in addition to the two it already has. The commercially unexplored seabed contains vast deposits of minerals used in batteries, EVs, solar cells, and wind turbines. As countries tackle climate change and work towards meeting their net zero obligations, they are also competing to secure their own economic interests in a future powered by renewable energy and emission-free transportation. To avoid unregulated exploration of the seabed, 168 countries including India, China, Russia, and the EU have signed on to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), a treaty that divides the international seabed for peaceful and equitable use. Exploration licences are issued by the International Seabed Authority (ISA), an independent intergovernmental body operating under the UNCLOS to regulate mining activities on the ocean floor and protect seabed ecosystems. Notably, the US is not a signatory to the UNCLOS. If the ISA approves India's new applications, its licence count will be equal to that of Russia and one less than China. To meet our energy transition targets India will need to secure critical minerals from all possible sources including the deep seabed. #ElectricVehicles #EnergyTransition #SeabedMining #ClimateAction

Alert: Energy and Industrial Strangulation Ahead! The news below on China's declaration of state ownership of rare earths and the implementation of a "traceability database to ensure it can control the extraction, use and export of the metals" represent one more step in the Great Power race for critical raw materials dominance. Through its Belt & Road Initiative and investments in critical raw materials extraction and transport infrastructures in Africa and in other continental mining sites, China has gained enormous leverage in the world trade of materials on which the transition to clean energy depends. The challenge ahead for Europe will be to deflect the Chinese politics of industrial and energy strangulation.

Discounts have been synonymous with #Russia ever since the #war with #Ukraine happened in 2022, but #thermalcoal exports did normalize over the next few months, pricing-wise. The fresh round of western #sanctions on Russia seems to have impacted it more as selling #coal has not been an easy task, especially with fierce competition coming from the US, #Columbia, South Africa and to some extent #Australia. India being a strategic partner, will certainly allow more of Russian coal, but will it let go of the longstanding price-sensitive country tag? Hefty discounts to all competitors can be the only go-to approach. Coal by S&P Global Commodity Insights S&P Global Commodity Insights Shriparna Saha Srija Basu Roy

Here is an interesting development with the global thermal coal market. Market participants believe Colombia, hitherto a major exporter to Europe, might find a new market share in China due to Europe's subdued demand amid sufficient stock levels. Secondly after China put an extra import duty on Russia, China is likely to grab the opportunity of a cheaper colombian high-CV coal which has been the latest trend..It will also be interesting to observe how the trade relationship unfolds in upcoming days..Give it a read to find out more details...
