TAC Challenge 2024 Task Highlights: Pipeline Inspection This task required detecting and following an underwater pipeline, with the added challenge of identifying multiple Aruco markers along the way. While the task could be performed manually, bonus points were awarded for achieving autonomy. Approach: Our approach featured Dual Feed Vision, which we deployed to detect the pipeline, and a calibrated underwater camera combined with CLAHE color correction for accurate pipeline detection. Our Aruco Marker Detection Code successfully identified and logged marker IDs, ensuring accurate recognition of each marker along the pipeline autonomously. In addition to detection, we achieved pipeline segmentation and tracking using image thresholding. We utilized the brightness reflecting off the yellow pipeline and undershot the red light to segment the pipeline. Once the pipeline was segmented, we used our control systems to ensure the robot did not drift away from the course of the pipeline (the segmented part) and maneuvered through turns and curves.
